carrying your toddler?

DD is 2 1/2 and weighs about 32 lbs. I don't carry her around for long periods of time, but some times she wants me to pick her up and some times i just want to pick her up. Is this okay? I'm 24 weeks PG. I don't hold her if it starts to bother me but my cousin tonight was like, put her down! you can't hold her! Chat Icon

Re: carrying your toddler?

I'm 31 weeks and have a 42 lb toddler that I pick up with no problem. I don't carry him around because he's 3 1/2 and doesn't need to be carried around. But if I have to, like if he's sleeping and i want to carry him to his room, I will.

Just don't overdue it. If you feel that it is umcomfortable then put him or her down.

Re: carrying your toddler?

I'm 36 weeks and have been carrying around my 30something pound 22 month old every day....to the car, through the parking lot, down the stairs....it's fine. This is something your body is already used to doing. You can't get around carrying your kid.

Re: carrying your toddler?

I pick up and carry my DS (he is about 28lbs) all of the time, sometimes it is just easier and sometimes I just want to hold him. I think it is one of those things where you are so used to his/her weight it isn't a huge deal. If I notice I'm getting tired or sore I may hold him less.

Re: carrying your toddler?

My DD didn't start to walk until a month before DS was born. I had no choice. My OB said it was fine.

Re: carrying your toddler?

I carry my younger son all the time (just not very long distances but often from the car to my house upstairs to his bedroom when he falls asleep or from the car to the supermarket carts when he is being lazy and I want thinsg done fast, etc.) and I am almost 31 weeks. He is 3 yrs and probably 38-40lbs. I have even picked up my 50lbs almost 6 yr old...I just can't go far with him - he is too heavy!! They are your kids - unless you have medical conditions preventing it - not much you can do.
