potty training advice!
DD is 2 1/2 and we have been attempting potty training this week. It's not going so well. She's had tons of accidents and keeps holding in pee and poop. When we ask her if she has to go, even if she's doing a "pee pee" dance, she says no. She screams when we make her sit on it. I was trying to avoid bribes, but I'll try anything at this point. I thought she would pick up on it a little faster. This is day 4.

Re: potty training advice!
we did a "special treat" each time she peed or pooped on the potty. gave her something like a small cookie (those mini oreos). we also did a very big celebration dance when she went. eventually we stopped giving treats for peeing and now she gets them sometimes when she poops. depending on how you look at it, it's not a bribe....more of a reward

Re: potty training advice!
DS will be three in March and this week we dedicated to potty training. We set the timer for every 30 mins and put him on. We tell stories, read books, and bring toys to the bathroom. We also let him hold a timer that we set for 5 mins while he sits. When he goes, we give him one m&m. We also made a big deal about stopping whatever we were doing and making sure DS knew that he wouldn't miss anything while we were in the bathroom.
Hang in there!

Re: potty training advice!
Honestly, it sounds like she is not ready. Both my girls did the same thing. I knew they understood the concept but were not willing. So as per my Ped. I let it go and within 8 to 10 weeks, they both did it on their own. No accidents, no issues at all. It was actually easy once they wanted to do it.
ETA: Both girls were exactly 2 years and 9 months when they were trained.

She's not ready. So no matter how much bribing/rewarding/reminding you do, it's not going to work. I say leave it alone for how, and revisit the concept in a month or so.

when i helped potty train the little girl i watched i made a potty chart-(download them online) and than each time she went she would get a sticker. i made a song up and if she went we would sing the song.

Re: potty training advice!
thanks ladies...ya, I'm thinking she's not ready either. So what do I do? Stick with it a few more days just in case and then go back to diapers?

Re: potty training advice!
Just put her back in diapers or pull ups...she will let you know when she's ready.

Re: potty training advice!
ITA that she's not ready. Over the past couple of months, I tried adn went through the same thing you're describing. Then, a month ago, after I had given up again and put her back in diapers, she woke up from a nap and asked for underwear, and has been dry during the day ever since. Now the pooping is another story though...

Same here. I tried in May when DS was just under 2.5 and he held it and wouldnt go and cried if I put him on the potty. I did the bribes and they did nothing too!
So after 3 days I stopped! Then in November I was just done with diapers. I led up with telling him once the diapers were gone he would have to pee pee on the potty. THen one day I just hid all the diapers and he was pee pee trained in 1 day! He was just ready.

Re: potty training advice!
We did the bribe/special treat thing. We had a potty box filled with stickers, pencisl, toys from the dollar store etc. Everytime she went she got a little something and loved trying just to get something.

Re: potty training advice!
She's not ready yet. I tried Potty Training my son a month before he turned three. He was just like your daughter. Screamed bloody murder every time I put him on the toilet (he would pee in the toilet but he was not happy at all)
I did this for two weeks. Tortured the both of us for two weeks, when I finally realized "He's not ready yet" Two months later he woke up one day and said no more diapers, and that was that. It was pretty easy from there on out.
One thing I've learned from LIF - if PT'ing is hard they are most likely not ready for it.

I wouldn't. Put a diaper on her now. Don't waste your time and energy. Every day of two weeks I wondered if I should put the diaper back on him, and then I finally realized I needed to. Don't waste two weeks of your life like I did
