Which Library would you pay to join?

My local library's selection is pretty limited. I don't want to pay to join a bunch so which would you suggest joining that has the best selection of books?

Re: Which Library would you pay to join?

are you on LI? I believe that most if not all of the libraries can inter-lend...my library when I lived in Nassau was tiny, but I was able to borrow books through other Nassau libraries and pickup/return at my library. My current library in Suffolk has the same thing going with the Suffolk libraries. It has a rather large selection, but there are sometimes still books that I want that they don't have.

I request my books online or even at the library and then get an e-mail and phone call when they are ready to be picked up. Try checking out the library's website.

There aren't many that give cards to non-residents.

I have one to the Free Library of Philadelphia. I've borrowed quite a few books from them and it's only $15 a year.

There's also one in VA, I'm pretty sure it's Fairfax that gives cards to non-residents, it's just under $30 a year.

You should look into libraries in other cities and counties in CO, sometimes they allow all state residents access.

Thanks. I'll see what the options are here. I printed out the form for Philadephia too.

In Suffolk County they have inter-library loan. You can request online what books you want and they will deliver for Freetown the library of your choice.

Ahh...sorry can't help there! I have Kindle which doesn't work with the library system. I just downloaded something for my iPhone that should allow me to download, but I haven't tried it out yet.

Suffolk you can request particular books - it's on the left side bar near the bottom. I've sent in a list of 20 books - they have gotten about 12 of them. Very easy.

Not sure if mentioned before, Cathy probably did but just in case - anyone in NY can get a NYPL card, or from any of the boroughs. I have Queens card. If you work in a different county than where you live, goto the library in your work town and ask they may give you a membership there too.

I haven't tried any of these but this was the list I found of libraries that offer cards to purchase for non residents:

The Free Library of Philadelphia is one example. They offer library cards to non-residents for $15 a year.

The Fairfax County Library in Virginia offers a library card to non-residents for $27 a year.

The Houston Public Library in Texas offers a library card to non-residents for $20 for six months or $40 a year.

Another option is the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library in North Carolina. They offer library cards to non-residents for $45 per year, $35 for adults 62 years and older.

Have you looked at the New York City library options? Anyone in the state is eligible for a card and I think they have a lot.

I'm not in state. That's the problem. My library here is pretty limited but I'll look into other CO library options. Maybe the Denver library has a better selection.
