Suggestions for an RE?

Hi all!

I have an appointment with my OB-GYN next Thursday for a checkup and also to discuss beginning TTC.

I have had irregular cycles for a couple years now and also have some other symptoms that belong to PCOS. Should I just go straight to a RE?? I think that I will need to see one so I need suggestions for one.

I live in Bayside and hope to one day deliver at NSUH in Manhasset.

I've already heard of Micheline Chu. Any others?

Thanks!!!
Samantha :)

I see Dr. Chu and highly reccommend her, but the entire clinical practice at NSUH is a great one.

I see Dr. Chu also and love her. Donna is right, the whole NSUH group is great. I've seen Dr. Schol and Dr. Rosenfeld too.

I see Dr Scholl at NSUH and am very happy there. I think each dr there has a different specialty though

Wanted to add, I happened to see Dr. Choen there today and he was really nice. I liked him a lot.

I would wait and see what your GYN says. It may be something very minor where you don't need an RE. Chat Icon

Re: Suggestions for an RE?

I've been to Reproductive Science Associates in Mineola, and just went for a consult at NSUH (Dr. Rosenfeld). I prefer NSUH. Hopefully you will not need a RE! Best of luck to you!!

Re: Suggestions for an RE?

Thank you all for your suggestions!!

Apologies if this is TMI but last night DH and I started the babymaking. No charting, no temperature monitoring. Just good ole fashion baby-makin'.

Maybe we'll be lucky on the first try??? Chat Icon

Re: Suggestions for an RE?

I just switched to Dr San Roman at RS of NY. He has an office in Mineola.

After seeing my OB for 6 mos at my 1st visit to an RE they said I was borderline PCOS with irregular periods.

I would start with your OB then go from there. If you are not happy with what you are told, go for a 2nd opinion.

Good Luck!

Re: Suggestions for an RE?

I was at RSofNY for 7 months and completed wasted my time. My doctor misdiagnosed me, had me on the wrong meds that actually did a bit more harm than good, and got the timing wrong on one of my IUI's. I also didn't like how I NEVER saw my doctor and some of the employees there act as if you are bothering them every time you ask a question. I have PCOS and many PCOS patients don't repond well to clomid... well, RSofNY had me on 150mgs for 8 days each cycle!!! Every woman who I ever spoke to who has gone there is put on 50mg of Clomid no matter what their diagnosis. The day I picked up copies of my records from there, there were at least 20 other envelopes waiting to be picked up. I only heard of two women on the boards who got preggos from RSofNY, both with 2nd IUI so maybe it would have happened naturally eventually.

I now go to NSUH and what a WORLD OF DIFFERENCE!!! I love that I always see a doctor, the nurses are so nice, understanding and helpful and if something doesn't work one cycle they change your protocol. They actually take the time to give you an individual diagnosis and treat you as an individual.
I should have gone there all along. My co-worker has a NSUH baby and my MIL has a friend who has a singleton and triplets... all 5 kids from the same doctor who is now my doctor.

I doubt my RSofNY doctor even knows I left.Chat Icon

Sorry so long but that's my experience. Just trying to save anyone else the lost time. At age 35 I wish I could have those 7 months backChat Icon

she is right. MY OB reccomended San Roman, I never saw him but had my 1st consult with another doctor who I never saw again. Everytime I went I was there for hours, always saw a different doctor (if I saw one at all). After 6+ months I switched to NSUH. I am hardly ever there more than 20 minutes, see an MD every single time and 95% of the time it is MY doctor who actually knows me and "roots" for me each cycle. The personalization and organization of the two clinics is a world apart.

I have PCOS too. I went to my gyn first and spoke to her about ttc. She is giving me six months to get pregnant. I would go to your gyn first and after a few months if nothing happens, go to a RE.

I live in Bayside too. If you need a great gyn, I can recommend mine!!

Re: Suggestions for an RE?

I'm just adding my vote FOR RSofNY.

I know a lot of ladies on this site didn't like their experience with RSofNY and they've voiced their opinions about it.

So I just want to voice my opinion that I was happy with RSofNY. I know I'm the minority here but like I said, I was happy with them and I'm thankful to Dr. Bray for helping us get pregnant.

DH and I had been trying for quite some time and weren't having any luck getting PG. My OB started testing me but also referred me to RSofNY for the next step.

I started going to RSofNY in May of 2005. We did testing in June and then in July we did our first IUI (unmedicated), which was UNsuccessful. We did our second IUI in August and I was on Clomid - and that round was successful. I found out I was PG on August 24, 2005. Katie was born 3 weeks ago on April 28th.

The protocol RSofNY has for their patients worked for me and I'm forever grateful to them for giving me my beautiful daughter. When we start TTC #2, I won't hesitate to go back to them.

I strongly believe that not ever doctor is for every person and that's the beauty of having so many doctors to choose from - so you can find the right doctor for you.

So, like I said, while I am the minority, I am very happy with RSofNY and thankful to them for giving me my Chat Icon

Good luck in making your decision and in TTC and please feel free to FM me with any questions.Chat Icon Chat Icon

I am also in the minority, I loved Dr San Roman and Dr Stelling at RS of NY. I went to their Stony Brook office and had none of the problems the other ladies have had. I guess it is a smaller office than the Mineola office. I would definetly go back if I TTC for #2.
