Traveling in 3rd Trimester.....?
I plan to ask my OB next week when I see her - but thought I'd ask you ladies your opinion on this.....
There's a work-related conference that I always attend in the spring. Last year I spoke at it, and I've been asked to speak again this year.
The catch is that it's in Tennessee this year and I'll be in my 34th week.
I certainly put my health and that of the LO ahead of work - but I really get a lot out of this conference.....so I'm sad to acknowledge that I probably won't be able to go this year.
What are your thoughts? Would you go? Maybe train it instead of fly?
TIA for your insight.

I am thinking they will advise you not to go - as generally they won't want you traveling too far from home/your hospital as you get closer and closer to the big day. But it's definitely best to find out from the horse's mouth!

Re: Traveling in 3rd Trimester.....?
My doc said no travel after 34 weeks...that being said, I don't think they'd be OK with me flying at that point. Hope that helps!

Re: Traveling in 3rd Trimester.....?
Thanks - I think I'm just preparing myself for the reality of not going (and declining the opportunity to present).
Also, I just saw that a train isn't an option.....which means I can drive it (not happening!!! 14 hours!) or fly.
Oh well! I'll have more important stuff on my mind by then anyway.....and who can even predict that I'd feel well enough to go!?

Re: Traveling in 3rd Trimester.....?
My dr had told me I could travel up until 36 weeks via airplane (which is the time where the airlines won't let you fly).

I just spoke to my OB today and she said she recommends limited travel after 34 weeks.

DH's sister flew to CA for their brother's wedding at 34 weeks. She had a pretty easy pregnancy and had no issues flying.

actually that is not correct - most planes will let you fly up to 39 weeks - but it is at your choice
at 34 weeks i flew to Pittsburgh for a shower - it was fine
but i also flew at 37 weeks and had my baby in boston - so not the best to give advice - i only felt bad for my dh because he had a 4 hour dirve to see his son born
if i traveled at 34 weeks now i would probably want to have DH with me just in case - but i see no issue having the baby in the wrong city as long as there is a good hspital near by
good luck

Re: Traveling in 3rd Trimester.....?
I agree with the PP that most airlines now don't have any limits on travel - it will come from your doctor. A few airlines have different policies with earlier dates but really what are they going to do, measure you? I did a LOT of research on this as I had a full time travel job and was planning on flying until I got cut off. My doctor said she thought up to 36 weeks was fine but she would just monitor me as I got closer to see if that needed to be shortened.
I think your fatigue and discomfort would prohibit things more than anything else. I imagine it would be hard at 34 weeks but not awful. I am at 32 w 4 days now and would still feel fine getting on a plane but I'm pretty used to air travel so my tolerance might be higher.
I think the best thing to do is talk to your doctor. Would it be awful if you agreed to go now and had to pull out later if things changed medically (or emotionally) for you.

I personally wouldn't travel. I say go with whatever your doctor recommends. I think most of them recommend against it during your third trimester if I'm not mistaken...?
