does it get easier?

my mother passed away 12/10/09, coming up on one year, and I keep breaking down. I was an only child in a single parent household, and christmas was the BIG holiday of the year.

I keep crying whenever I hear christmas music, and keep thinking about how much I miss her. This holiday season has been rough as heck.

Re: does it get easier?

does it get easier?

depends on the year. i am being honest. you can read my post below.

in the years my mom passed some are marked by a little sadness, but nothing overwhelming...other times....not even around holidays..maybe before or after i feel soooooooo messed up.

its waves.....ebbs and flows.

yes over time the ebbs and flows spread out...but for me....the still come. i know counseling has saved me.

so sorry feel better if you can xoxoxo

Re: does it get easier?

I hope it gets easier. My dad passed on 01/04/10...but he was in the hospital last Christmas and out of it. I thought last year was the worst, but this year is hard too. My son was only 4 months old when my dad passed - his only grandson. He couldn't wait to have a grandchild, he would be having so much fun with him at this age. I try to be happy around my son but some Christmas songs make me so sad. I miss him so much. My mom is having a rough time as well this year. So, I do hope it gets easier with each year that passes.

Re: does it get easier?

My Dad died in and accident April 2 2006 and I still feel like it just happened. I dont think it has gotten easier for me I actually feel its worse specially now since I have the kids and they will never get to meet him Chat Icon Chat Icon . I think maybe in some cases if you got to say "Goodbye" to your loved one it might be easier but I never got that chance and feel guilty bc I was to lazy to call him the night before his accident...

I lost my mom 12-24-2004, that was here buriel. You asked if it gets easier, I don't think it gets easier I think you learn to cope with it better. It's hard no matter what anyone says, but know you have a very special Angel, and she will be in heart forever.

I certainly hope so but I do think that you lose a piece of yourself when you bury a parent.

I agree.
I definitely felt like I lost a part of me when my dad died.
It hasn't gotten easier for me at all... maybe I've gotten used it a little bit more, but it's not easier.

I agree. It may be "easier" but things will never be the same. Chat Icon
Christmas was a fun time for us too. My mom made it so special. I just don't get excited anymore. I hate listening to christmas music because so many of the songs bring back memories of my mom.

Re: does it get easier?

I wish it would get easier, the only think I can tell you is that you learn to cope with it better, my mom passed away 12/21/04, and buried on 12/24/04 my world came tumbling down on me, but thank God I have such a great husband he tought me how to cope with everything and still does.

Just keep your faith, and have an open heart and you will see how everything will fall into place..God Bless You, and Good Luck

Re: does it get easier?

Yes.. it does. My father died when I was 12 and I too come from an only-child family household.

As you'll hear over and over, you just have to take it day by day and think about all the good times you had with them. When I hear certain songs I too think of my dad. A few years ago I came across a bottle of his old colagne in a back room, smelled it, and of course a flood of memories came rushing back to me.

I find comfort now in knowing that he is still around and we will meet again one day.

After reading an above post I have to agree, for me, the hardest part is experiencing life events (graduations, wedding, and eventual birth of my future children) w/o him that I know he would have done anything to be at. He died of cancer and put up 1 hell of a fight.
