Cat Mommas and Daddas

just a q.. do you take your babies for professional grooming?? like a bath plus hair cut?? my boy usually gets a one bath evert 18 months plus a trim (he's got some long hair mix in him)..

He's 3 and so far has had two.. am I over doing it? He gets a thorough brush, nails clipped, every two weeks..

Re: Cat Mommas and Daddas

no we don't... both our boys are a year old and we haven't given them a bath or brushing since they were like 3 or 4 weeks old. they're pretty good at cleaning themselves and i'm pretty sure they'd have a heart attack if i tried to give them a bath now Chat Icon they refuse to go anywhere in a carrier and don't really like anyone but me and dh so taking them somewhere is DEFINITELY not feasible.

No, no bath. Sushi does jump into the shower with me from time to time though!

Maybe I'll ask DH to skip this coming year then.. I don't want him stressed out beyond and all annoyed.. but i think he likes a trim in the summer..

Re: Cat Mommas and Daddas

we have short hairs so no grooming but might bring the cats soon because they are becoming a handful with cutting their nails.

they both sit in the bathroom/edge of shower and watch me shower so i think the steam helps them with the cleaning.

Re: Cat Mommas and Daddas

I've never bathed a cat in my life, except for my mom's cat, Chad but that's because he has hip dysplaysia (sp?) and can't groom himself properly.

Short haired cats do not need to be professionally groomed ever (under normal circumstances of course~ like I did have to once when many years ago one of my cats decided spill a whole bottle of olive oil and roll in it...don't ask! lol). Long haired cats, especailly when older can benefit from getting shaved, usually at beginning of warmer weather.
It is always a good idea to comb any cat daily if possible, cuts down on shedding and hairballs.

Re: Cat Mommas and Daddas

We're not going to take Abby for hair cutting...maybe getting her nails trimmed though. But she's short hair so it isn't bad....we just brush her. My old cat was short hair also, so we didn't have to o that at all. Only once when she managed to get herself covered in gravy did we wash her...I might still have a scar from it Chat Icon

However, a co-worker had a maine coon and even though she brushed him daily, sometimes he would still get a little knotty and then it would get to a point where he just needed a shave. She also liked to take him in the beginning of the summer for a shave so he wouldn't get too warm.

Re: Cat Mommas and Daddas

how much does a groomer charge to clip nails? We really need to do it this week.

Yea today they sat on the toilet and one in the sink while i shaved. I don't get it they are memorized by my nakedness. Personally I am vile looking so i have no clue why.

Re: Cat Mommas and Daddas

my Persian goes to the groomer ever 3 to 4 months

he gets the works- nails, bath and a lion cut

my other cat is also long haired but she is blacklisted at the vet for being agressive and I would not take her

the wrote "good cat" on my persians card at the groomer- I was beaming

I try to brush him- but he fights me- he is so matted right now- he is going to have to go in next week after I get paid

I said brush yesterday- and he bit my arm- so cute

Re: Cat Mommas and Daddas

my cats take care of themselves. I cut their nails.

I wipe my long haired cat down after he rolls in the dirt and I brush both of them each week.

I was over the friggin moon when he got 4's and 5's.. I was a proud momma!! He also got a gold star Chat Icon

But he got sick there so never again.. Chat Icon

We don't take our cats to a professional groomer, but we bathe them ourselves once or twice a year. Their fur attracts so much dust and allergens that a bath on a somewhat regular basis is necessary. Luckily, our cats aren't completely freaked out by the water - in fact, they love it!

My cats are short haired. We don't give our cats a bath or get them groomed, but we do brush them once a week or so.

Also, we have a waterless shampoo spray that we use once inawhile. It makes them smell all fresh and makes their fur smooth and shiny :)

Re: Cat Mommas and Daddas

I bathe them when needed. There's not a lot of places near me that groom cats. Mine are also indoor only, so they don't get very dirty per se.
