Decongestant
My son is 8 months old and has a lot of fluid in his ears. The ENT has recmnd a Decongestant...Mucinex actually...1/4 of a teaspoon, twice a day.
I'm being a freak about it because I know babies shouldn't have a Decongest. I spoke to my Ped and she was totally ok with it, but wanted to know if anyone else has used one under 1 yrs old
??

Re: Decongestant
I thought the rule was no decongestants or cough meds or any cold meds until over two and even at that, only under peds directions, but since your ped is directing it, I suppose it is OK.

Re: Decongestant
plain mucinex is not a decongestant, it is an expectorant. the active ingredient should be guifenesin. do not buy mucinex-D because that one has the decongestant in it.

Re: Decongestant
When we were on vaca in FL DS got sick. The emergency place that did not specialize in children recommended children's mucinex. When we got back our PED told us she doesn't suggest using it.

Re: Decongestant
we've been advised by the ped when my dd was 10 months old to take the mucinex. i think the general rule is to not give it to children under 2 unless directed to do so by your ped. Mainly because the dosage can change based on their weight etc. so if you give it to your child your ped should tell you the correct dosage.
