I really can use some advice here...

Okay, here goes.... I have working for my boss who is a dr. for 19 years. I have great hours. I have a Masters degree but stayed on- it just worked out this way. Last spring my boss told me he wanted to sell the practice, I can stay in this office w/ the new dr. or go with him to his other office. When I said I was thinking of going to the other office w/ his other partner and my boss who will work limited hours , he basically told me I am being sold w/ the practice- I was like WTH??? I feel like a slave- I am being sold w/ the practice? I am/ was very upset about this. Fast Forward to 9 months later, the same dr who was trying to buy the practice is still trying to get a mortgage, but my boss says the contracts are signed, and my boss will be still working there, just a new dr. will own it and that my job is secure- asside from the fact my boss drives me nuts - I am so angry and have no answers to anything. I have not spoken to the new dr, have no idea what is going on.... should I just leave this job b/c I have to worry about myself and look for another job, even though I was told my job is secure ? I am very upset and am sick and tired of being played . Opinions? What would you do? Talking to my boss I have tried, it gets me no where- I cannot begin to tell you how upset I am, I have a college education, maybe I should try to use it, but w/ this economy what do I do? This new dr. supposedly wants me to stay- but I am not even allowed to talk to him b/c he does not own it yet. HELP! I am so fustrated. My boss prasies me all the time, and tells me how much the new dr. wants me to stay . I even get stopped by patients begging me to stay... My DH has a good paying FT secure job, this is just extra spending money for me....

ETA I work w/ one other girl and she has no answers either. She heard that things would stay the same and he would bring in a resident and bring in other people to work w/ the resident, but we are secure in our jobs..... I started to search on monster.com and saw some promising jobs for me- not sure what to do . HELP!Chat Icon

I would start sending out resumes and try to get interviews so if $hit hits the fan, you are ahead of the game.

You are not obligated to move elsewhere just yet, and maybe things will work out where you are currently.Chat Icon

Re: I really can use some advice here...

If you are not happy get out.

After 19 years it's time for a change.

What's your degree in?

Only you can change this situation.

Good luck.

It never hurts to look but honestly, it sounds like it makes no difference. If you are not unhappy there, I would stick it out and see how it goes. If they let you go, you'd collect unemployment and be free to look for another job. Obviously my response would be different if you were dependant upon your salary.

My BS is in Business, Psych and English. My Grad degree is in Public Adminsitration/Health Care Administration, and certification in Gerontology.
The kicker that put me over the ledge was my boss is going away for 3 weeks and told me to give the tenants my home number in case something goes wrong, I should get up in the middle of the night if the oil goes out etc. He has tenants that rent the upstairs of the office, the office is in a house. Also, I am doing the job of at least 5 people. In the 19 yrs I am here, this had to be the worst week of work I have ever had. I was so sore I could hardly move, and had a migraine . I cannot stand this work environment! When you go to a dr. they have different departments for different areas- well I am doing all of these departments. A new job has got to be easier then this. I feel like I am a waitress on roller skates- I put pts in rooms, make charts, answer calls, schedule surgeries, billing, call insurances, assist him in procedures etc. I can go on and on.... the best is he is now asking me what would I do to help him make decisons on pts- hello- I am not a doctor- I am beginging to think maybe he is going senile- oh yeah, and he calls me at home all the time too for work questions, and then tells me to add the pts when I am there b/c he likes to work w/ me, have I added he has not given me a raise in at least 5 yrs and when I ask for one he has no money to give me one, and I can only work 16 hrs a week, because he is only there p/t so if I go over I get paid days off, when I am on vacation , I cannot call in sick, G-D forbid.... but the man has enough money to buy a new Jaguar and a building out of state????.....ughChat Icon I wonder if there are any NYS labor laws against this?

Re: I really can use some advice here...

I stand by what I said.

There are jobs out there with your degrees and experience.

How many hours do you actually put in?
