PSA: Wii, XBox or gaming unit that can be used online...
Just a heads up....
a kid from my town 'friended" a kid via his xBox. They started playing against each other all of the time, starting chatting online.
They started talking about girls. The friend asked for a photo of his girlfriend. The kid sent him it. Then they were joking around about sexual stuff. The kid sent pictures of this girlfriend doing things to him.
Then the kid was playing xBox at his girlfriends house & they called him.
Now a pediophile from NJ started calling this girl - had pictures of her, has her ADDRESS from her home phone number's reverse look-up.
The police are involved. It's a whole legal thing happening in the middle school with the kid.
So there is your PSA.
I swear I am really rethinking teaching kids their home phone numbers versus cell phone numbers.

That is so scary.
I was watching the Nate Burkus show on Friday and they had a security IT guy and apparently there is way for hackers to get into your computer and VIEW you through your web cam if it is attached to the computer like MAC's are.
What happens is, the hacker sends an email to you, you can open it but once you open any attachment or link that posted in the body that is what gives them access.
He suggested putting black tape over the camera.

I'm crashing on this board but I just felt the need to comment. What a horrible and scary world we live in sometimes. Although, I talk to DH about video games if we ever have a  or if  is into video games. DH loves video games - has the xbox, ps 3, all of that - and frequently plays on xbox live and says he can't believe the young voices he hears on there or the language that comes out of the kids' mouths. I teach 7th grade and ALL the boys play Call of Duty and other equally disturbing adult games. I always wonder who buys them these games? Are their parents really that uneducated about video game labels? Do they just not care? Is it just easier to give in to them on this topic? I think DH will be very liberal in lots of areas but he says NO WAY to playing video games while talking to others online or to adult themed games before high school. So many of those games are very very vulgar!
How sad for that girl and her fami;y. Kids have to worry about so much more growing up now than we ever did!
