Anyone start running from scratch
If that makes sense?
I'm just sick of looking the way I do, I started WW, but I need to do more, and I know from the past when I was healthier and at a good weight, the best thing was running, even though I hate it.
I am planning on running/jogging tomorrow. I know its going to kill my body after not working out for awhile.
Anyone else do this?

Re: Anyone start running from scratch
Yes! I started running in april after not doing much. I started slow and can now run 35 mins at about a 7 pace. I started at 5.0 for 20 minutes and slooowly increased my speed and time. It really really helped get me into shape. I didn't lose a ton of weight, but i prob took off 10 pounds and toned a lot.
I stopped for a little bit last month and started feeling gross again. I just started strong again and am determined to lose the 15 i need to lose! Good luck to you!! Just do NOT overdo it. Start slow, and slowly add speed and time. best way to do it. I killed my knee in the beginning when i pushed myself too hard..

Yes! A lot of girls on here will recommend the Couch 2 5k program. If you google it, the program will come up. Its for beginners who have never run before and it gets you running 3.1 miles (5k) in 9 weeks. It totally worked and I lost 20 pounds over six months after I started running. A year and a half later I ran the NYC marathon! I never thought that would happen, especially after struggling the first few weeks of the program. But it does get easier, you just have to stick with it. Good luck!

Re: Anyone start running from scratch
Pretty much! I started running last December..could barely do a mile. Now I can easily run 10+.
Please be careful and don't do too much too soon and hurt yourself. Try starting off slow and taking walking breaks.

Yes, I have to add that I've had my share of injuries! Mistakes I've made that have caused injuries:
-not having the right sneakers -not replacing my sneakers soon enough -running on cement (sidewalks) -increasing my mileage too quickly -did a 3 hour run on a treadmill and didn't stop and stretch as much as I do when I run outside...really messed my hip up!

Go easy! Don't think you have to go out and run 3 miles straight!
Running is hard. Add walks and start with a short distance. Gradually build up.
Make sure you have good sneakers, like another poster mentioned.

Re: Anyone start running from scratch
I did. I started w the couch to 5k program and after a few runs, I was on my own. I still take it easy some days lime today when it was freezing. Running outdoors has been an incredible experience for me. I have lost 6 pounds since November and I feel better mentally. It's a new love of mine.
Go for it!
