Almost newbie....
We are not TTC yet but we will be by the summer...I usually go to get my yearly check-up in July but if we are starting to try before that, should I make an appointment earlier?
I just haven't spoken to my dr. about going off BC or anything that goes with starting the process...TIA!

Re: Almost newbie....
i dont think there is a need to... you can pretty much stop whenever you want...
i feel like the only thing they will do is tell you to start taking prenatals...

Re: Almost newbie....
Okay great---so do you start prenatals as soon as you go off BC? Or before?

Re: Almost newbie....
I actually just saw my doctor the other day and spoke with her since we are going to start trying towards the end of the summer.
She advised me to come off the pill and wait three periods before we actively tried to get pregnant. She also prescribed me a prenatal which she said I can start taking now.
Good luck!

Hey.. We also are planning to begin TTC this summer and I thought it was early to begin posting on here but it's nice to others on here in the planning stage
Just curious what pre-natal vitamins she recommended for you?

Re: Almost newbie....
You're in good company over here. I'm another not-quite-yet TTC.
You should think about going off your BC 3 months before you're ready to TTC. And you should start taking prenatals 3 months before as well. Even earlier is even better...
When Should I Start Taking Prenatal Vitamins?
The first trimester is the time during pregnancy when all of the baby's major organ systems are forming and developing. Evidence shows that the mother's body will need adequate nutrition "on board" in order for the baby's growth to be on track, especially when it comes to vitamins such as folic acid.
The baby's neural tube will begin to close within the first month of pregnancy, during a time when few women even realize they are pregnant! For that reason, it is very important that you start taking prenatal vitamins at least 2-3 months before you begin trying to conceive. New research even shows that taking folic acid (included in prenatal vitamins) for one year prior to conception reduced the mother's chance of having preterm labor.

Re: Almost newbie....
I plan to TTC in June, and my yearly appt. will be in March. Same as PPs have said: go off your BC about 2-3 months before TTC. As far as vitamins, my doctor suggested I start taking regular vitamins now, making sure they contain folic acid. Once I go back in March, I'm going to ask specifically about the prenatal vitamins, and probably switch over to those. She said there is no real reason to have a gyn appointment before TTC, unless it's time for your yearly visit.
