You have a lot of the essentials, check out the buy/sell/swap thread on parenting board for some really great used items like a snap and go, swing...etc if you want those items.

As far as diapers start with size 1, unless the baby is super small but I would only buy a small package of newborn diapers.

I would say pick up some sheets for the pack and play as well as the bassinet, maybe a bottle drying rack if you plan to formula feed.

If you check out BRU website they have a list of things they suggest every. Ew mother should have, as a btdt mom there are a lot of things I think are useless but it will give u an idea of somethings.

Totally agree!! I would also get a box of size one diapers and wipes, snap and go or a travel system stroller. Burp clothes wash clothes towels bottles pacifier swadle me balnket was a must for my DS! by 4 months you will need a high chair and maybe an excersaucer! Lots of luck!!

Re: What do u need for a newborn?

Definitely start with size 1 diapers. We only used newborns for like a week with DS.

The PP had a great suggestions of checking Parenting for some gently used items.

Don't forget about towels, wash cloths, and DS lived in onesies for at least the first 3 months (he was born in June).

Re: What do u need for a newborn?

Looking back to when DS was a newborn, I remember never having enough burp cloths and receiving blankets. We used cloth diapers as burp clothes (Gerber ones with the thicker middle section).

Re: What do u need for a newborn?

waterproof sheets, or just water proof pads
I would start with one pack of newborn diapers

you can also ask the hospital for some essentials like diapers, pacifiers, a few burp cloths, packets of vaseline, etc.

Re: What do u need for a newborn?

this is what I just wrote to my friend :

I am going to break it down by categories. Baby Registering is very overwhelming and so hard bc you don't know what baby restifo is going to like so my biggest piece of advice is to register for one of each brands ie, one 9 oz bottle dr brown, avent playtex drop in and born free. do not take any tags off or throw out boxes the stuff comes in.

The big ticket items I did more research than I can count , probably 20 plus hours and I have to say it was worth it bc all my products I actually use and are amazing.
Stroller: http://www.buybuybaby.com/product.asp?SKU=127694& register for the citi mini its lightweight, amazing control, storage underneath is plentiful, great in snow and of course #1 in all safety ratings. I have the bigger verison city select bc you can add a seat for another little one so if thats important to you then go with select check them both out at buy buy baby make the lady show you bothI lI r

Before they can go in stroller which is until they grow out of infant car seat , you need the snag n go this is so light connor could pick it up lol. The car seat snaps right in. http://www.buybuybaby.com/product.asp?sku=14967931&

Infant car seathttp://www.buybuybaby.com/product.asp?SKU=15117486& go with the graco snugride link attached. Do not I repeat do not go with the graco snugride 32 or 35 those numbers represent the max weight capacity of child. By the time your kid reaches that weight u will not be able to pick it up. Don't forget to register for an extra infant car seat base for nicks car. The eddie bauers mirror are good so u can see them while driving.

Convertible seathttp://www.buybuybaby.com/product.asp?SKU=17732137&RN=7022& (when they grow out of infant seat) you will need 2 bc they r stationary don't get fooled by the fancy britax name the evenflo triumph advance seat has same exact safety ratings and half the price.

Rainforest bath is awesome great hammock good size and lightweight http://www.buybuybaby.com/product.asp?SKU=14994785&

Breast pump medela brand is best. I am pumping at work so I got the hands free which is most exp. The medela pump in style 100 less just isn't as small. All depends if u want it to be easy to travel. http://www.buybuybaby.com/product.asp?SKU=15961422&

Diaper bag totally personal choice check them all out at buy buy baby I love my jjcole roomy tons of pockets zipper top thick shoulder strap for over the head carry. http://www.buybuybaby.com/product.asp?SKU=16216020&RN=7186&

Bouncy sweat and swing they are all the same go to the store and see what's space efficient for your house.

Swaddle blankets : get one of each and you will decide what baby restifo likes the best. I love the swaddle me bc its easy and velcro, i also like the woombie bc of the zipper but its not as tight as swaddle me. A lot of people like the miracle blanket but its annoying for me

no need for a highchair you can get this easy to transport and fits everywhere http://www.buybuybaby.com/product.asp?SKU=16700762&RN=7042&

my grandma insisted on a highchair for me so I told her to get me the graco i liked the way it folded , this is another personal choice go to store and play with them and see which one you like i would stick with the big brand names for safety purposes.

receiving blankets just mean large spit rags ahhahah i love the Aden + Anais they are so soft and large and can be used for everything swaddling, play mat changing on the floor, spit rags, blanket everything http://www.buybuybaby.com/regProduct.asp?WRN=-1488651641&sku=16692468&

The brest friend is literally amazing, I dont think I would still be nursing without it dont let people tell you , oh u dont need it , its a big pillow its not! it has lumbar support, frees up your hand and great position for baby http://www.buybuybaby.com/product.asp?SKU=17069985&RN=7359&

pack and play I registered for the baby bjorn bc of its amazing convenience its very pricey almost as much as my crib but since I am always on the go I wanted something lightweight and easy. http://www.buybuybaby.com/product.asp?SKU=127121&

I really like my baby bjorn some people rave about the baby carrier called ergo too many straps for me , you will have to check that out yourself at buy buybaby , personal preference. I use the baby carrier everyday for doing chores around house when connor wants to be held.

Bedding is a waste bc you can use the blanket or the bumpers ( safety concern dr will tell you) I still got it for the pictures ahhahah some people buy breathable bumpers I did not but would put them on registry and see f you like them, you need 4 sheets, 2 mattress pad covers and 2 changing table covers , i recommend the carters so soft!

my favorite item of course you know is connors rock and play sleeper http://www.buybuybaby.com/product.asp?SKU=16822914&RN=7082
