Milk buit-in on tongue

Hello all, my 7 weeks old daughter has built-up milk residue on your her tongue. I was told that when it gets too thick, the baby can't taste the milk and loses their appetite to eat.

Do you guys have any idea how to dilute it? Any special formulas/steps to remove the build-up or scrape it off? Water isn't enough.

Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!

I'm not sure but do you think it may be thrush? My niece and nephew had that, and its common with some babies. Chat Icon

My daughter had thrush as well. It is different from milk build up. Actually even when milk would stick to her tongue it never seemed as if it wouldn't come off at all. If it is still there tomorrow you might want to take her to the dr to see if it is thrush.

Take a warm water washcloth. If it comes off easily it is milk. If it is thrush it will not just wipe off. Call the dr if you are concerned.

My DS had that and I asked my doctor about it because I thought it was thrush. Get a cuetip and if you scrap her tounge and it comes off with no bleeding then it's just milk and give her a little bit of water like a 1/2oz. If it comes off and it bleeds then it is thrush. Once I gave DS the water he didnt get the buildup anymore.

It may be thrush. check the roof and sides of the baby's mouth as well. Thrush is very common and nothing to worry about. My nephew is 7 weeks old now but he came home from the hospital with it. it is just treated with antibiotics.
Milk build up on the tounge usually fades or comes off a few hours after feeding, or with a washcloth.

Thrush looks alittle thicker and is not easy at all to get off.
