Love my OB--hate her office staff!!!!
I really LOVE my OB--she's been great for the past 5 years I've been seeing her, and has been even better through the beginning stages of pregnancy. I feel very comfortable and totally trust her.
I just can't stand her office staff! The receptionist is just plain rude, and the others aren't much better. Last week I called to change an appt (on February 24th mind you!) and they acted like I was holding them up at gunpoint. She scolded me and told me to "be more mindful" when making my appts.
Do you think I should say something to the doctor? Or just tough it out because I love going to her so much?

It's the same way at my PCP office. I love her and would NEVER ever change MDs, but her office staff is horrible.
Unless they are really out of line, I ignore it. It's a small price to pay for what I consider unbeatable health care from a great doctor.

I agree with this. As long as I am comfortable with my doctor and I love her I would stick with her. It is so hard to find doctors I am comfortable with and that I like.

I agree with the PPs, but also wanted to add that as long as you don't make a huge deal about it, mentioning something to the Dr. might not be a bad idea. I hate how there is such a lack of customer service in many doctor offices - super frustrating and if it was a continuing pattern of rude behavior I think I would casually mention it to the Dr.

Re: Love my OB--hate her office staff!!!!
I wonder if we have the same doctor? I had a huge problem with the staff a couple of weeks ago. I called the doctor and I called the office manager. There was no way I was staying with a practice (that I have been going to for 15 years) and being treated like garbage. Not happening.
It sounds like I had bigger issues than you but I would definitely tell the doctor. I realize these women deal with crazy pregnant ladies all day but if they can't handle it, go work for a urologist.

Re: Love my OB--hate her office staff!!!!
I know I would let it go (because I am a big wimp) BUT I think it is worth saying something to the office manager if you can. There is no need for inserting their opinion into something as simple as an appt change more than a month away. come on! I changed my appt for my 12 w visit 3 times! and absolutely nothing was said at any time by the office staff. They just took my information and gave me some options. It's their job.

Re: Love my OB--hate her office staff!!!!
Ugh I feel the same way, "What's your name" I say my name "Hold" they put me on hold and come back 5 minutes later "What did you say your name was" I tell them my name "when would you like to come in" I ask what their available appointments are, and she tells me. Not ONCE did she ask why I was coming in, which if you deal with multiple things in your office like, idk regular appointments which I JUST HAD and prenatal and postnatal etc, you would think she would ask, you know since she has my chart RIGHT eeeefffffFING THERE. And all said, huffy like I'm BOTHERING her, or asking her to make an appointment while she's on break. NOW, if she had asked a simple question like, Why do I need to come in, that could have been followed up with "how far along do you think you are" and THAT RIGHT THERE would have solved the stressor issue I'm currently in the middle of. IF she gives me an attitude again, I will be saying something, because I don't stand for b/s especially if it's something I have to deal with on a weekly or biweekly or whatever basis.

If you feel that uncomfortable with the staff and they are rude, then yes I think the dr has a right to know.
dr's can lose patients due to a nasty staff... and if they never know the staff has issues they can't fix them.

Re: Love my OB--hate her office staff!!!!
Just a different perspective, but my dad has owned a very large practice on long island for over 30 years and he would without a doubt want to know if his patients were having repeated issues with the office staff. If it was a one time thing than I'd just let it go everyone has bad days, but if this is something that happens regularly I'd let the doctor know. If you aren't comfortable or can't get in touch with the doctor I would put a call in to the office manager. It doesn't have to come across in an angry way, but it could help them resolve issues. It's likely that if it's happened to you a few times it's happened to others too.

Re: Love my OB--hate her office staff!!!!
I think you should say something, but don't be suprised if that doesnt change anything...I used to work at a specialists office...and people thought he was the BEST, most compassionate Dr ever...but he was a total phony, and people would get mad at us on regular basis for implementing HIS policies...and complain to him, and he would yes them to death and change nothing. He was so terrible that I quit and will never work for a Dr again...and his patients would NEVER know what kind of boss he was!
Although they should NEVER be rude to you...for all you know your Dr. has something against people rescheduling appointments, and gives her staff a hard time when it happens. Thats how it was in the office I worked in.
