OK...
The first half of the subway series is over, I am not going to gloat and say we kicked "Yankee azz" because in reality, we didn't.
Am I happy we took 2 out of 3? Naturally
Am I happy we gained a game on Philly? Of course.
But, IMO, this series raised some serious issues.
I was away this weekend, so I saw as much as I could, but I saw the stuff that counted.
First, as predicted, Friday night was a slugfest. Johnson doesn't have his stuff anymore and Gonzalez is as green as a dollar bill. I anticipated a high-scorer and I got it. Luckily, the bats pulled us over the top.
Saturday - -disgraceful and herein lies the problem. I actually blame Randolph as much as, if not more so than Wagner. He should have left Sanchez in, and if he got in trouble, THEN you go to someone else. But, it was not a save situation, so Wagner was out of his element and when it was 4-2, it was time for him to come out, because he was clearly uneasy out there.
Last night, good pitcher's duel where once again, our bats prevailed and for once, an acquisition (Delgado) showed his worth. Not to mention a follow up blast from Wright.
Should be interesting in June in the Bronx.

DH said the same thing about leaving Sanchez in. Saturday's game was just plain dispicable! There is no excuse for blowing a 4-0 lead in the 9th. You are facing the bottom of the Yankees lineup! Half that team is injured, we should have swept them.
Both "sandman" closers may have blown games but Wagner's was by far the worse! Mariano blew a tie game, wagner blew a 4-0 lead in the 9th! Can you imagine that happening in the playoffs or world series!!! How sick to your stomach would you be! I was stunned on Saturday! I thought I was going to go into labor...LOL I was screaming and cursing.
When I saw Wagner warming up last night I was like "Oh Holy Mother of God here we go again".

I was going to leave the room but DH was like "come on you gotta stay" so I did and covered my ears and eyes. Wagner is on my sh** list.
I'm sorry but I feel like we are back in the days of Looper and Benitez. This man is making me nervous everytime he comes up. You just don't know what he's gonna do.

For once can't we have a reliable closer! Is that too much to ask for.

Wagner is a good closer. He just needs to find his place, settle in, and act like it.
(Plus, I HAD to quote everyone in this thread - it seems like the thing to do!)

i was disgusted ....
more so by the Yankees... Friday night was an absolute disgrace...
Sat...FULL of errors but redeemed themselves...
Mets...did exactly what they did last year...fell once Pedro left the game...
Last night...a better game by both...just wasn't the Yankee night...
I think there is no honor in these games and both teams better check themselves

Friday was nowhere near as disgraceful as Saturday was. It was dispicable the way the Mets lost and there is no excuse for it, but we can blame Billy the Goat who better check himself and get his act together.

Re: OK...
I'm getting tired of Wagner's blown saves or almost blown saves. It's frustrating to constantly have closers that either can't close games and rarely have 1-2-3 innings. There always seems to be drama in the 9th. DH is less worried than I am. He thinks it's better to have Wagner mess up early in the season and hopefully pull himself together so he can pitch well in September and hopefully beyond. I'm not as confident in Wagner's ability to pitch well later on in the season. The end of the season won't matter if Wagner keeps blowing games.

I agree with you. You either have your stuff or you don't. If this guy is shaky all season then there is no way I would watch him pitch in playoff game. If we would make it at all, our pitching has a big right now. I'm only confident in Pedro and Glavine.
