Have you ever "gone to HR"?

Just curious. At what point do you feel you HAVE to get them involved?

There are issues that are NOT getting resolved that are impacting MY ability to do my job reasonably. I am getting nowhere.

Yep..that was me. After a while I let it all go, put my blinders on and did my work.

For the most part I'm happier but I'm still questioning why this person is here when it's clear she shouldn't be.

Re: Have you ever "gone to HR"?

Yes I did. My former manager wrote me up for something that was completely unjustified and then added in other things that I'd 'done' that demonstrated I was unprofessional, rude, etc....basically saying that I wasn't doing my job well. Well I submitted a rebuttal with a HUGE stack of emails disproving all of the negative things my manager wrote. My manager ended up getting in trouble for basically lying and the report got ripped up.

BUT... this job also taught me that whether right or wrong, the person with seniority will always win. Magically, a week after I got a bonus and the company announced the year's success, I was laid off because they decided to cut back and eliminate the position.

People couldn't stand my manager and it was obvious that she made an effort to get me out. That only made her disliked even more.

In a past position, when I was planning on firing someone, I involved HR.

Ended up firing her too, although it was a long, drawn out process. (Agency fears being sued and didn't want to be hit for UE).

I went to HR twice. I dont feel that on either of the occassions it was worth it as nothing was resolved and in one instance, caused more harm than goodChat Icon

ehhhh just a word of advice, if you're dealing with someone in a senority position, no matter how sucky the situation may be, chances are it's better to keep mum. believe me on this one. Chat Icon

Re: Have you ever "gone to HR"?

Some guy was sexually harassing one of my co-workers and used to say things that were inappropriate. So, we went to HR. This was about 8 years ago and a retail job for a GIANT furniture company. The woman in HR told everyone who went to HR. That I found INCREDIBLY unprofessional. So people knew we were the ones who got the guy fired.

I did once - it involved violence in the workplace. HR conducted interviews with everyone involved and that employee, who had a history of being aggressive and belligerent, was terminated the same day I reported the incident.

I did once at an previous job because this weirdo wouldn't leave me alone. He just made me feel uncomfortable.

From past experiences I have had friends go to HR for different reasons and nothing was ever resolved. The person they went to HR about ended up finding out (even though HR told them their conversation was confidential) and it didnt turn out to benefit them.

In the end I think HR is there for political reasons and if you got an issue with a co-worker its better to hash it out with them.
