Oprah today (military families)
I am just catching the tail end of it, but it so great that they're talking about this...when our servicemen/women come back from their tour, the adjustment of getting back to life...
I don't have close family that are in the military, but my friend who is basically like a brother to me has had such a hard time adjusting back to "normal" life here...He went to West Point, right after graduating he was in Afghanistan and then Korea. After he came back, he got his masters at RPI...but since he's been married, divorced, has PTSD, has had some really rocky relationships and I always feel so that he just is having such a hard time getting his personal life together...

Re: Oprah today (military families)
IT was a great episode. My brother is in the air force but, thank god his is in an undeployable position. But, my uncle is deployed right now enduring almost daily airstrikes. They hit the chow hall the other day and killed one and injured like 12. So scary. 3 more months until he comes home safe and sound.
But, what I really like was how they highligted the effects on the families. It is really rough on them. I have a few girlfriends who are army/marine wives and what they go through. I just couldn't do it.

Re: Oprah today (military families)
it was such a sad show & I think that unfortunatly the woman who lost her son is right about people forgetting the lost soldiers or maybe just want to ignore it. I mean, look at how many people opened this thread- only 73 so far & 2 comments JS in italy & gay tom cruise are more interesting topics.

Re: Oprah today (military families)
I actually caught the show today and I thought it was really poignant. It really made me stop and think about my own behavior. When the war started in 2003, I sent dozens of care packages to soldiers overseas. Since then, I haven't done a thing. These poor young men and women are sacrificing so much for us and it's almost forgotten.
Wasn't it terrible when Corey's wife said that all of his friends abandoned him? That was awful.
I would LOVE for Oprah to do like a favorite things episode for them or something like that.

Re: Oprah today (military families)
I'm watching it now - the mom is at her son's gravesite reading his favorite children's books.
Bob Woodward just said it's "an epidemic of disconnection."
It really made me think. (And it has NOTHING, NOTHING at all to do with personal politics.)
We could all do more and it's just so so sad that we don't because we get so wrapped up in stupid little stuff. I'm so guilty of it and am really going to try to do better by our soldiers and their families going forward.

I was hysterically crying when the mom was reading to his grave & you can tell she still feels so much pain from her loss.

Re: Oprah today (military families)
Man, I am so upset that I missed this. My brother is actually deployed right now, and I would have been interested in seeing this.
Is there any place to watch Oprah episodes online?

Re: Oprah today (military families)
It is so sad...I watched yesterday so happy she did this episode. All Oprah haters...if she doesn't do episodes like this no one will. I will miss her when she is gone.
I have seen it a lot. It seems like when these guys come home from their first tour, they want to get a wife asap. want something. so many of our friends and family have had these quickie weddings. now, years later. divorces all over. my neices are a product of this. terrible custody battles.
My SIL has a hard time keeping a job. they are constantly moving since BIL is active duty.
