Personal day...what is legal?
Sorry for my old fakie name...people at work cyber-stalk me....literally. No really, they do. I logged on at work one day & they looked at the http & were able to figure out my sign in name.
I took a couple of days off this week b/c the kids are under the weather. I also have a Drs appointment that I made a few months ago, and told my boss the day I made it that I need Wed off. I know the timing is awful, but what can you do?
Here are my qusations: * Can they require me to work from home, and then insist that I take a personal day, because I only did *one thing* Does it matter that the one thing took me half the day?
*Can they give me attitude about my initial response in which I told them that I could not do anything at that exact moment b/c I was trying to get DSs fever under control
*Can they then turn around and tell me that if I take off tomorrow (which was approved months ago) that I will have to do so unpaid?
I feel like I have gone above & beyond for my job for a very long time. They have been promising me a promotion for YEARS that I have yet to get, and in the rare event that I need to take off & am completely unavailable, I am told, "well this is why it is taking so long to get your promotion approved." I am a reasonably intelligent person, and I know this isn't *right* but it is legal?? Is this environmental harassment?
TIA

Re: Personal day...what is legal?
1) NO. If they approved you to work from home - they can't just turn around after the fact and say it was a personal day. You DID do work....if they are going to do it that way, they better put together a policy that outlines some sort of productivity statistics!
2) They can give you attitude but you don't have to take it - what were you responding to? Was this on your day off? How exactly did you respond - did they take it the wrong way? Maybe it was all in the "tone"?
3) What is your company's vacation policy? If they approved it months ago (do you have proof?) then I don't see how they can't pay you for it...do you accrue time?
How big is this company? Do they have an employee handbook?

Re: Personal day...what is legal?
If you took the time off from work, you don't have to do work. If they are requiring you to work then they cannot make you use a day off because you worked.
