Best BCP
Does a good BCP even exist?
I was on ortho years ago and gained weight. Yasmine was better, but the clotting scares me.
Can anyone recommend something witout a ton of side effects. TIA

Re: Best BCP
Clotting can happen with any hormonal birth control, not just Yaz. I clotted while using OrthoCyclen.

Re: Best BCP
I have been on Yaz because Yasmin made my sex drive go bye-bye. Anything else I tried (Ortho and something else, I can't even remember) made me so bloated. My Dr., for me, said Yaz was best and he's definitely been right so far - no bloat, my periods are great - very light/short, helps keep your skin clear and there's no bloat b/c it actually makes you go to the bathroom a little which is kind of nice! I like it. But everyone's body is different.

Re: Best BCP
I used Nuva Ring for 5 years. LOVED it.
I had previously used ortho trycyclin and the depo shot for awhile.
Loved the ring best.

Re: Best BCP
I am currently on OrthoTriCyclenLo. It has been working very well to regulate my period & control my migraine headaches.
My cousins boyfriend is currently doing his medical residency & says that the best hormonal birth control is the Ortho Evra Patch.

Re: Best BCP
I've been on Loestrin, Yasmin, Yaz, OrthoTri-Lo and Zovia....
The "best"...for ME...was the Yasmin...it helped me lose weight, keep it off, keep my sex drive up, and I was pretty regular with very little spotting....
Yaz and Ortho packed on the weight, killed my "drive" and had me a mess. Zovia turned me into a psychotic loon! (I'm only slightly exaggerating there )
I think it is really a trial and error thing, and each individuals body is different....

Re: Best BCP
Love Loestrin (fe120)! I dont even get a period on it, just the way it works w/my body. Most people will get it for 1-3 days but not me. My dr says it is fine and isnt anything to worry about. I now take Junel (fe120) which is the generic b/c I got new health insurance and the loestrin was pricey.

Re: Best BCP
I cant give you a best, but I can give a worst (at least for me) the Depo shot. I PACKED on the weight, my emotional state was ALL OVER THE BOARD, I was a total mess. I've been too scared to try anything since.

Re: Best BCP
I was on Yaz for about 3 years and just recently stopped taking it because we're going to be TTC soon (in June) and I'm convinced it made me blow up a bit weight-wise.
It's almost a week that I've been off so we'll see but otherwise it gave me lighter and shorter periods (and less painful in the ways of cramps).

I was on the Patch for 2 years. My doctor stopped prescribing it because there were all sorts of lawsuits from women getting blood clots.
I switched to Ortho Lo. I hated it. I never went back after DS, hence why I am pregnant with DC #2.
But I really don't know what to do after this pregnancy. I was thinking about Mirena, but have heard some bad stories.

Re: Best BCP
It's really different for everyone. I was on Orthro Tri Cyclen for YEARS and it worked great, but then my insurance changed and they gave me Yaz which was awful. Awful doesn't begin to describe it. I went back on Ortho Lo which was fabulous until recently (my doctor tells me your body can change the way it reacts to things). Now I'm on Nuva Ring and loving that.

Re: Best BCP
Before I got PG, I was on Levora. Medication rarely affects me negatively, so I have been on a number of BCP, all of which were fine. I did not like Yaz, it made me uncomfortable that my periods were so light. I may be the exception, but I like when I get my period.
