At the end of last year allegations were made against the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter staff and how they were neglegent and abusive towards the animals at the shelter. Animal lovers and advocates have been attending TOH Board Meetings since October, pleading with Kate Murray to make the changes there that are so desperately needed. They have a $7 million dollar annual budget, when shelters of similar size on L.I. have less than half of that and yet not much of anything has changed. No volunteers allowed in the building, no full time vet, the animals are exposed to temperatures averaging 35-40 degrees. Last Sunday Newsdays cover story was about the $100,000+ salaries of TOH Shelter Employees with political connections and yet the dogs in there don't have blankets or toys. The rally today is for animal lovers, taxpayers, animal advocates and anyone else who would like to be a voice for our homeless shelter animals. It will take place at the shelter in Wantagh at noon rain or shine! Hope to see you there! The animals are counting on all of us!
