I never changed mine.... I used the same one with Caiden and then with this baby!  Wow!!! Mine lasted at least 3 years. I also used it for a year in between getting PG to keep track of my cycles. Not bad! 
Oh... I have the BD Basal Body Thermometer that I got at CVS or Eckerds.

I got the BBT one from CVS. I've been using it for 4-5 months, but this morning it made a weird noise when it sounded. I didn't know if maybe the battery was dying, or the tone got messed up one of the times it fell (I keep it on the nighttable and kitty has decided it's the first thing he wants to play with in the morning).
