Set Your DVR ladies.....
On Thursday Feb. 17th at 3:00pm
Dr. Oz is doing a show on Autism.
Andrea and myself were in the audience and were picked to ask questions, although the discussion got so heated, we didnt get a chance to ask our questions.
Autism speaks was supposed to be there, but turned down last minute...go figure

I just watch the first 2 minutes and DH came home. I stopped at the woman who interrupted Dr. oz to make the show about her in a matter of seconds.
DH wants to see it so we are going to watch it together.

i forgot to record it too. . However my friend went and said it was very contrived! She did ask a question though supposedly but they gave her the question to ask.

I am watching now. I am ALREADY pi$$ed off with the vaccine debate.
I mean, EVERYTIME you mention vaccines Dr. will say "MMR". And that mom CLEARLY said she knew it was not the MMR. Just like with DS. I KNOW it's not the MMR. I KNOW it's the Dtap. I know! He got sick after both vaccines. RSV right after the vaccines, the first time at 6 months. Started to get a bit behind. Then at 11months old he got the 2nd shot of D-Tap. Within the next 3 months, he lost all his words. Was sick. We ended up seeing an infectious desease specialist. No explanation. But both time he got sick after both shots. I don't care what everybody says. A mom knows her child. When milestones timing start to change. Yet, the conversation by Dr. is always to go back to the flawed MMR study.
But I do think our environment has weakened our bodies.
- PBA water bottle
- Toys from china
- Jarred baby food

I just ranted about this on facebook - I'm just really disappointed. Where's the "most heated debate in the history of the show"? Where's the passion and fire that Dr. Oz uses when he speaks about things like body fat? And why the eff was it only half of the hour long program? Ratings. 
Here's a clip of Dr Oz talking about the subject in 2009 - I guess when it's not HIS program he doesnt have to worry about being PC and bowing down to Big Pharma.

I was very dissapointed as well. First, I couldn't believe they couldn't at least spend the entire hour on it. Which probably led to my next problem that I felt like none of the issues were really deeply explored. I guess because I'm sure we can all talk about this for hours and hours...I just felt the 30 minutes was weak.

ITA. There were no discussions. And it's mostly the Drs. who spoke most of the time. The parents really just asked Qs. No real discussion on what parents were thinking, having fear for the future, etc.... And since the whole topic was about WHAT causes autism, there really was no debate since nobody can prove anything for sure. And Drs. are not open minded enough to really look into it. Gotta love that AMA president. "There is research right now". Really? Autism is at the bottom of the food chain when it comes to study. Probably the most rapid development of an epidemic and the least amount of research and $$ given for research.
BUT I am hoping this hush hush mentality will not stay for long. The numbers are there. SOMEONE is going to have to look into it serioucly this time and stop giving this round around BS of why we are not researching this more seriously!
It will impact our societly. 1 in 110 children. This is huge! And a major impact of the future of both children with special needs and typical children. Because those kids with special needs are not going away. And they are more and more present and increasing.

And 30 minutes. Seriously! You can't even get your popcorn ready and the show is oven. That was NOT a serious debate at all!

I thought they would show it for the whole hour, at least that was my understanding.
I was upset that they really edited a lot. They should have a follow up. Yes, you are right, it was just one sided and only talked about causes, and not the treatments which is what P I SS ES me off that Autism Speaks declined to show.
They said on their facebook that once again all they talked about was vaccines, whic is NOT true. They should have been there not to debate but as the largest organization and fundrasing for Autism. Although I dont agree with many of Autis Speaks beliefs, but they should have been there to talk about other things such as treatments, parent support groups and just spread the awareness. Boo on them.
