Looking for Graphic Design Job for DH
My DH had gone back to school to get his Associates in Graphic Design. He graduated in May but hasn't been able to find anything. His background otherwise is mostly in retail and he was recently laid off. He's trying the freelance thing but I'm hoping he can find something stead. If anyone has any leads on a company that may be hiring or where we should be looking I would really appreciate it. We live in Suffolk but he has no problem commuting. TIA!

Re: Looking for Graphic Design Job for DH
Talk to people! Anyone you know, your parents know, your siblings know, etc who has a business or knows someone who has a business... DH got his foot in the door as a graphic designer in NYC through a friend of a friend of my dad.
Look on craigslist for jobs, DH got his last 2 jobs from craigslist.
While he's not working, have him teach himself what he doesn't know. Web stuff, programs he's not that familiar with, etc. DH was laid off for 9 months in '09 and while at the time it was the worst, it was actually a good thing b/c he taught himself web, css, indesign and really got into doing freelance. It definitely has been proven effective since he recently had 2 job offers and already had a job AND started his own freelance LLC now as well.
Also he should try to do as much freelance as he can. Start off doing things for friends and family members to build up his portfolio. Word of mouth is huge in GD so if he does a good job it'll get around.
