ugh.... my cat swallowed string!

I have to call the vet tomorrow to find out about this. From the interent this could either be really easy (she expells it on her own) or it can cause intestinal issues.

Anyone ever have a pet do this? Ugh. I hope she just passes it in the next 24 hours.Chat Icon

our puppy tries to eat everything and anything that is at his level. i've seen him chewing on his blanket and seen strings hanging from his mouth which i'll snatch out of his mouth when i see it. but i'm positive there have been times that either DH and i havent caught him in the act... so far he's fine! and we have seen pieces of wee wee pad in his poo too. (told u he chews and tried to eat everything Chat Icon )

i think ur cat should be fine too but there's no harm in double checking with ur vet.

Re: ugh.... my cat swallowed string!

my cat does this ALL the time!

he'll pass it one way or the other. Usually that day. If Im oh so lucky (sarcasm) I have to hold him while gently tucking a poo sticky string out of his butt. Fun fun, lemme tell ya.

Its much better to hear the ever so pleasant (again sarcasm) sound of a hair ball gag to find a string in the middle of the cat puke/cat food mess.

Yeah, this is why I pulled up the carpets in most of my house. Clyde will chew on ANYTHING and try to swallow it. Strings, plastic bags, etc.

Never taken him to a vet and it will normally pass that day at the next 'movement' or vomit. If I'm TRULY lucky I won't even know about it!

I would definitely call your vet and not assume it will pass, just to be safe. A co-worker's kitten recently had surgery due to a stomach issue and they found a string caught inside causing major problems.

Certainly *could* pass on it's own, but better to have the vet be the one to make that call and play it safe. Chat Icon

This exactly. I don't usually worry too much about my dogs since they are a huge. A cat is much smaller- there's no harm in getting her checked! Hope she's okay! Chat Icon
