Does anyone feel....

like they're sooo miserable at their job and have no clue what they really want to do?

I currently work in Insurance...I HATE it. I've been in a job that I hate for 4-5 years now. The only reason I took the job back then was because I was out of work for 8 mths, living on my own and the job market was horrible after 9/11.

I have my resume updated and ready to send out, but when I review job listings...I actually think to myself..."What the heck do I REALLY want to do?"

I had some interest in a couple different particular fields and even considered going back to school, but when I researched the industries it made absolutely NO sense to do it. I'd spend thousands on schooling to take a $20k pay cut?! It just doesn't make sense with wanting to ever own a home or even consider having children and take such a huge pay cut.

Anyone else going through this?

I'm also in this predicament, pretty much all my experience is in retail so I have decided to use that for a career. i'm going back to school though.

I think you really need to find your passion and make something from it.

I do. I am so far away from where I want to be. I really ahte feeling this way too, and I really hate the fact that I busted my a$$ to go back to school & get killer grades for nothing....no mobility, no raises/promotions, nothing. I made 3x as much money bartending & I swear if I was not 45 lbs overweight mya$$ would be back behind a bar right quick.

I am in the same boat. I have no passion for my work, I am on LIF more than I work and getting on the LIRR everyday for this is just not worth it. And I don't even know what I want to do! So I sit here. But...I have been sending out resumes--for closer to home opportunities-which are very few!

Yes - that is why I am currently going to real estate school - so in the future I can get out of this place

Yes, i know exactly how you feel. everyday i wake up and go to a job i HATE!!! I also have been here 5 years and did it because at the time i was a student and they were very considerate with my schedule. Now I have earned my masters and feel like my life is wasting away cause all i do is come to work and make copies!!!

I stopped caring about my job and try to focus on my life. Is that bad? I don't care. I certainly "like" where I work...but I'm not curing cancer, so I go to work, put in my time and thank God that I make what I do and can come home and forget about it. Prob delusional, but whatever gets me through it. I think I would be happy being my own boss...I HATE working for others...but oh well; all with time.

when i start feeling like this I get lazy and make mistakes and i don't like being like this cause i am not lazy and make mistakes but not all the time. the worse of it is the pay doesn't even compenstate me getting up so early . sorry to bring some peole down so early in the morning, especailly on a MONDAY !!!

I feel your pain too.

I HATE my job and especially my boss. I am going no where in life and there is no where for me to grow here. I dont know what I want to do with my life - what I want to do involves little money.

I feel the same way. I don't like Human Resources at all- but if I go back into social work- big pay cut.... now that I am pregnant, i feel like I have even less options because I want to work from home 1 or 2 days a week!

I felt the same way. I quit my job last month and began searching for something with "growth opportunities" ... I finally found something that will allow me to learn and grow in the industry I want. It was a really tough decision to walk away from good, easy money and great hours, but for my sanity and self worth I did it. I'm exicted to start a new opportunity.

I felt that same way that you did up until March when I got laid off. They say everything happens for a reason. My last day is on the 31st which is good timing for me b/c I probably would have been handing in my notice since my DH and I are relocating. But I am going back to school once we get settled in VA. I will probably have to work in the same field I am in now & go to school but hopefully the co I will go to will be nicer than here. But since I was forced to leave I am in a much better mood. Ok I am rambling!

best advice, see what would really make you happy, research how to get there and just go for it.

OMG, I feel Exactly the same way!! I've been in the same job for over six years now. I've looked a bunch of times on job sites, updated my resume, but - I don't enjoy what I do! (Administrative stuff.) Unfortunately we definitely can't afford for me to start anew in a completely different field and take a pay cut. I wish I thought things through better when I took this job years ago - I never planned out a clear "career path" and now I feel like I'm stuck.

So, yes - I feel your pain and frustration. Hugs to you!
