When your DC started school...
Were you able to meet their teacher before school started?
Do you have to wait until the first day or open school night?
What happens on the first day of school? Can you stay with them for a while?
TIA

Re: When your DC started school...
We were able to meet the teacher at the kindergarten orientation program our PTA organizes. There are 6 sessions, at the first the kids meet the teacher for about 20 mins, at the 3rd the parents meet her for about 30 mins, and then the kids have a 1 hour visit to the kindergarten class where they get to ask current students questions. My dd can't wait for ds to have his class visit so she can show him everything.
First day of school we weren't able to stay with them at all.

Re: When your DC started school...
We saw a lot of the teachers at the Kindergarten orientation.. but didn't know who we were assigned to. The first 2 days of school were half days and we were able to go with our child the first day and meet the teacher.

Yes, we were able to go into the classroom the day before school started to drop off their supplies, see the room, and meet the teacher.
No... the first day of school they go in, and thats it. You are not allowed to stay.

Re: When your DC started school...
They saw the school in May during orientation, but didn't know their teacher. Then thursday before school started on Tuesday we met the teacher and they spent time in the classroom and then played on the playground. First day, they took the bus and went in by themselves, they actually recommended this.

Re: When your DC started school...
They got to meet 2 times.
Once at orientation 2nd time. When we brought in supplies for school about 2 days before the start of school.
Our PTA sponsored a Kindergarten playdate so that all the classes could meet. They color coded the kids names so that you knew which child was in which class. It was cute and all the parents got to meet.

Re: When your DC started school...
We saw all the teachers at orientation but didn't know which one would be DD's. I did not get to meet her teacher until open school night but this was like 2 weeks into the year. I did have other firends in the same district that got to drop off supplies and meet the teacher before the first day of school. Her teacher did mail us a packet the end of August with an introduction letter and her picture.

Re: When your DC started school...
Were you able to meet their teacher before school started? Nope. They had a 1 day orientation in June which was like 10 minutes to see a random classroom in action. My son had major anxiety over going to school (he doesn't handle change well, stopped eating, acting out etc.) so I emailed the teacher the week they go in to set up their classrooms and I told her what I was experiencing with my son. She let me come visit the classroom when she was setting up and she was wonderful and it helped my son so so much. I wish the school had a program to meet the teacher or classroom beforehand or even just a bus run. It is a huge change for so many kids.
Do you have to wait until the first day or open school night? Open school night.
What happens on the first day of school? Can you stay with them for a while? My son got on the bus and I waved goodbye... If you drove - it would have been similar. No parents are allowed to walk them in. But in the end it worked out for my son. He went on the bus like a proud big boy!

Re: When your DC started school...
We didn't meet her. We have a 2 hour orientation where we toured the school and met special area teachers.
DS went on the bus and was nervous, but got off the bus after school saying school was AWESOME!
We didn't meet the teacher until back to school night. I think I may have been more relaxed since it was a girl I went to HS with's younger sister (I didn't know her, but at least I knew about her)

Re: When your DC started school...
I didnt know until last year that you can go into school with them the first day regardless of grade. You can only stay a few minutes. No one ever announced that, so I had no idea when my oldest was in K & 1st grade. Another parent happened to mention it to me so you might want to ask a few parents. I'm assuming that's not the norm and I'm not sure if our school will allow it in Sept, they have a new security system.

Re: When your DC started school...
We were not able to meet the teachers before the first day of school. The first day, however, was a half day. The parents were able to ride the school bus with their child, stay in the class for that first half day and then take the bus home. I actually found taking the bus with my son helpful as now I know the exact route he takes to and from school everyday.

Re: When your DC started school...
DS started Universal Pre-K in our district. I met his teachers at orientation. After that we aren't even allowed in to the school. We drop them off at the side door and that's it.
