I did something so stupid yesterday ** UPDATED 3/26
I brought Lola over to Kitty to see if they would get along, I was holding Lola trying to let her know I was there to protect her .. Kitty wacked her right in the face and hissed at her then ran away.. Poor Lola she didnt know what hit her.. I dont know what the hell I was thinking.. she was so happy to see Lola at first.. Then all of the sudden out of no where she wacked her and almost got her eye.. My first instinct was to evict kitty .. I was so mad .. My husband was really mad at me too.. But I really thought about it and I am very aware I did this not kitty.. I dont know what I was thinking I used very bad judgement.. They always leave each other alone. but I wanted to make them friends
I am glad Lola isnt afraid to go out there as a result also.. but I cant help but be angry at the cat.. She hurt my baby.. Lola made a little yelp when it happened too.. I went out last night and fed the Kitty and pett her as usual but with resentment.. I know I did this and its my fault but I am still ****** off!!!!!!!!!!! And I would never neglect the cat no matter what since I started all of this , but I want to get over my anger at her too!!!!
*****Update**** 3/26

Re: I did something so stupid yesterday
I know it's hard not to be mad at Kitty, but she was probably just scared too.
Sometimes they just don't get along or there is an "adjustment" period. They may not ever be "friends", but not being "enemies" may have to be enough.

Re: I did something so stupid yesterday
I would honestly have been surprised if Kitty didn't whack her. I know she hurt your baby but to be fair, you did put a strange dog in her face, kwim? It's only instinct. I do hope Lola is ok though.
Reminds me of when I was younger. There was a stray we were caring for and I thought she looked like our indoor cat. I thought they would be "friends" so I brought the stray in and held her and put her under the table with my other cat. Well a fight ensued and I got scratched up big time. I will say though that I was 9 years old. And I never did tell my mom. But we eventually did take in the stray but the two females never did associate with one another even over time. But this was cat to cat so Kitty may warm up to Lola over time.

Don't beat yourself or the cat up about it. You experimented, it didn't work out. Now you know better. They are ultimately animals and unpredictable.
Is Lola's eye okay though?

Re: I did something so stupid yesterday
Kitty just has to get used to Lola on her own schedule. The whack wasn't intentional - you may have startled Kitty or scared her with Lola. Give it time, they may become friendly with one another or not. Can't force the issue.
I adopted my cat because she did not get along with her fur-siblings. Lola the dog would constantly try to play with Bella the cat who wanted nothing to do with Lola. The only way to get Lola to leave her alone would be to either whack her in the face or jump on her back. Bella would hiss at Jessie the cat to leave her alone. (Jessie is her mother !) This was driving my friend crazy, so I took Bella. All three animals are as happy as can be now.

I agree...
I have two dogs and two cats... the Cats are older and each time we brought a dog home ... it took a big adjustment period for them all to get along. Now, the cats rub on the dogs and sleep with them. You just have to let it happen naturally.

Re: I did something so stupid yesterday
Thank God they do not have to live together. Kitty is feral and lives in a house outside in my yard where Lola just goes to the bathroom.. She doesnt stay out there at all.. I just wanted to see if they could just smell eachother and play maybe.. but NO WAY am I ever doing that again!! It was so dumb of me .. I was afraid Lola was not going to go out there anymore.. Thank God she did .. I just cant trust them alone now for a second .. Sometimes I let lola out and let her get some air for 10 min but now she can do that on the side of the house..

Aww, I would be upset too but, look at like this, if Lola is still going outside w.o hesitation obviously the fear wasn't enormous. KWIM? My dog fell down a few steps and he is still afraid of them 5 years later!

Re: I did something so stupid yesterday
I understand where you were coming from but the face to face was a bit much as you found out. You can't force them to get along.
Kitty meant no harm and it sounds like Lola was more shocked that hurt. Still I know lola's your baby.
Kitty probably has smelt Lola's pee and is confused why she's being confronted. I think animals know how to interact far better than we do. If you left them alone I'm SURE the Kitty would leave Lola alone. If she was confrontational she wouldn't have stopped at one smack.
I put towels from one cat out so other cat can smell it (when I introduce a new cat in our house) and they are NOT allowed to see eachother other than far distances for a full month. They are separated by a door the whole time. The "alpha" or lead of the house always has more room. The younger one is let out only in stages, but I never put them together. They always figure it out. They may not be best of friends but they do tolerate eachother based on their own rules and boundaries that are set in their own world that we would never understand or could interpret.
*hugs* to your Lola
I'm glad you're trying to not hold too much anger to an animal who has most likely forgotten the whole incident and never meant anything other that true animal defense and reaction.
