ABA Therapy -Insurance
Does anyone have experience with getting at least a portion of ABA therapy covered through insurance ?
I am thinking about when EI is over, and if my dd's SD doesn't give her a SEIT for home. I would like to have her continue with one on one ABA.
Thanks

Re: ABA Therapy -Insurance
In NY, insurance does not cover ANY EI or ABA therapies. ABA is associated with Autism. That's code 299. Red flags for insurance. They do not cover anything associated with autism. Why? Because there is no known "cure" for autism so they won't pay.

See - I get emails all the time from insurance companies asking me to sign on with them because ABA will be covered by insurance.... I don't get it....

This is Groovypeg's husband......
I'm a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and do accept multiple insurances.
In NY there is more difficulty getting insurance companies to pay.
In states like CT. there have been laws passed mandating insurances to cover ABA.
It depends where you live. Even if your insurance does not "accept" you can find creative ways to get reimbursement.
Here is a nice website... http://www.insurancehelpforautism.com/
Best of luck,
Eric

Re: ABA Therapy -Insurance
We live in Massachusetts and only in the last year did the state REQUIRE insurance companies to cover Autism-related expenses, without a lifetime cap. It's different from state to state but I believe NY does fall under this new law.
I called my insurance company to see to what extent did they cover and they said ABA therapy is covered, after age 3, up to 12 hours a week.
