Re: school district ?
Yes.
My mom used to take my brother to the Cody Center in Stony Brook for social skills classes and the parents would swap stories about their school districts.
I personally haven't had any negative experience, but I've been in wonderful school districts as a substitute teacher with great programs.

I found this online but it's a few years old so I am not sure if things changed. I think it depends a lot on the pupil personal director and of course funding.
I would love to hear more about suffolk county school districts, as I am considering moving out east in about a year or two. I am looking into East Setauket and Rocky Point schools, as I heard they are easy to deal with.

Re: school district ?
I think that is somewhat true from what I have heard from others. I know we were told by the evaluators and our preschool that our district is very difficult to get services from compared to those surrounding districts. That if you have 2 children with the same deficits that the surrounding ones will offer more services and ours will offer the bare minimum or none (again we haven't had our meeting this is just what we were told by people who have been in to these meetings for a while).

Re: school district ?
Wel, I think it depends on lur child andnhis needs. One district might be good for one and not good for another...
We left one of the top schoo district ( Syosset) in Nassau and moved to another grst school district HHH. They are known for being one of the best for special need districts. He is getting much more services and the righttupe of class than what we would have gotten in Syosset. I also could not beilieve that ?Syosset odes not have a blended class....

Re: school district ?
I'm a school consultant.
There are ABSOLUTELY better districts out there than others.
Some districts I walk out of and can NOT believe what goes on in there. And some are phenomenal.
It all depends on the special ed director, and how much accountability the teachers have.

Re: school district ?
yes, this is true. And a GREAT school district as referred by most "typical children" parents may be horrible for special ed.
Honestly, it does not only depends on the SD "budget". But how the parents dress, if the father shows up at meetings, how well you sell your case.

Re: school district ?
The services are not suppose to vary by district, but the truth is they do.
My district is phenomenal. Never had to beg for anything. They handed me everything on a silver platter.
My DH's cousin lives in port Jeff station which is comsewogue district and she had the hardest time getting her son services and he has apraxia. He had services for 1 year and they tried telling her he didn't qualify for a second year Meanshilw the kid had a vocabulary of a 1 year old at the age of almost 4.

I'm not in Bay Shore schools but work in Bay Shore. Their district is amazing for Special Ed! If I move, we're going there. We're currently in Lindenhurst and they've been fantastic! Definitely very good for special ed.

I agree with both! Bay Shore is awesome. My brother has autism and we all went through the Bay Shore SD. My mother never had to fight to get services and he got a great education. He is now attending college, which is amazing.
I was a permanent sub in the Lindenhurst School District. Their special ed program is phenomenal. Their teachers are wonderful.

This is how I feel about my SD too (Harborfields). Everything was smooth and easy. Our psychologist even said that HF has a kind CSE.
Never knew things didn't go as smoothly for others until this board

Re: school district ?
I have heard that Roslyn is not good for services at all if you need a special need school.
