spinoff to the dealbreaker thread on Home
There's a thread on the Home board about whether a street name would be a dealbreaker for you in buying a home. My question is, would/has a potential significant other's last name be a dealbreaker for you in dating them? (I know many women dont take their husbands name, but my sister refused to meet a guy she was otherwise interested in dating because of his last name)

Just dating? No, I don't think it would stop me from at least getting to know the guy. Whether or not to take his name should we get married in the future would definitely cross my mind though.

not a deal breaker. I don't love my DH's last name but I love him. I'd rather a great guy with a not-so-great name than a bad/ok guy with a good name.
(and I took his name)

I'm not a huge fan of my new last name, but I never looked at it as a dealbreaker.

Not a dealbreaker but I most likely wouldn't take his name if it was that bad.
I know someone who married a guy last name Swallow. Her name is XXXX May So she opted not to take his name so she wouldn't be XXX May Swallow.
Their kids will have her last name.

No not a dealbreaker... I would at least meet the guy to see if we hit it off.
My aunt dated a guy for a long time with the last name Head, i'll never forget it but it didn't stop her from being with him (she didn't end up marrying him though).

No. While I always dreamed of marrying someone with a simple last name, the guy I fell in love with didn't have one.
If I judged people by their last names, I would have missed out on my favorite time of my life thus far.

Nope.
I just wouldn't.
I don't like DH's last name and haven't taken it.

Re: spinoff to the dealbreaker thread on Home
this guy was very cute and my sister was interested until he heard his last name: Doucher (he's french - it is pronounced du-sherr) and she wouldn't even meet him after that!
I would have still given him a chance, but if we got serious I'd lean towards keeping my maiden name and who knows, if the name was really bad he'd take my name

NO! If I didn't like the last name, I would just keep my maiden name. As it was, we both had pretty common, sitcom family names. Didn't really bother me at all.

I seem to pick guys with off the wall names.
I dated a Konrad, a guy who's first name was the same as the last name, and a Krauthamer.
