I just can't say "die" to DS. It makes me too emotional.

That's what I used to say too, but I don't like saying that either, so we started saying the first one you mentioned!

We just pray for all the people in our lives who we know need prayers, then we talk about what we are thankful for in our lives. We've been adding in the Lord's Prayer too, since I think its time for my older DD (4) to begin learning it and they have started it in school for her as well.

we dont' say that one, but we say the "Guardian Angel" prayer and the "Hail Mary" (both Catholic prayers. DD is only 21 months bu she is starting to chime in on some words and is learning how t odo the sign of the cross. We also ask God to bless _____, and ______, and _______..

This is what I grew up doing...throw in the Our Father of course....
This is what I do with DD1 and will of course do with DD2 when she gets older.
Just something silly to add.....
My sister was (and still is) a joker when it comes to religion and prayer...her favorite prayer is a poem by Shel Silverstein called The Selfish Childs Prayer
Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep,
And if I die before I wake,
I pray the Lord my toys to break.
So none of the other kids can use ‘em…
Amen.
(She got that poetry book in the 4th grade and I'm convinced it was the beginning of her journey to H-E-double hockey sticks LOL)

When I was a kid, my mom always said an Our Father with us at bedtime and then we would say "God bless Nana, PopPop, Grandma, Mommy, Daddy..." and so on through all my siblings. Then she would say "And God bless all the people we know and love."

I don't like the "if I die before I wake". If you think about it's kind of scary to a kid, you're saying prayers and they might go to sleep worrying that they will die while they're sleeping!

We say the Our Father, then we say thank you God for....... (immediate family, godmother, godfather, family and friends and he adds some of his toys) We also thank God for His protection and provision.

I do these two and an Our Father too, since 6 weeks old. Lately I've been adding something a little personal to it too just so he learns to say what we are thankful for.

DH says the "Our Father" with DS before bed. He's almost 3 now but started at about 2 and a half. DH puts DS to bed and one night told me that's what he did. I wouldn't have thought to teach him that first, but I it was too late. Now DS can say it line by line and it's the cutest thing. He says he wants to learn a "new prayer" but DH can't remember the others!
