which hosptial did you deliver and level nicu
Which hospital did you deliver at and what is the level nicu at that hosiptal?
did anyone have a plan to go to one hospital if they went into premature labor and to go to different one if they are close to full term?
TIA

My OB is only affiliated with Winthrop. I don't know what "level" of NICU they have, but I know they have a NICU.

Re: which hosptial did you deliver and level nicu
if i was 34 weeks or less i would go to winthrop, but if i was past that i could go to plainview. i ended up up in winthrop bc there was another delivery in that hospital with my doctor. the nicu was on the same floor.

Re: which hosptial did you deliver and level nicu
i delivered at winthrop with both pregnancies. all of my kids were in the NICU and I worked in a NICU before kids.
I would never deliver at a hospital without a good NICU....too risky IMO.

Re: which hosptial did you deliver and level nicu
I believe Winthrop has a Level 3 NICU unit. That's the hopital my dr is affiliated with.
I actually live closer to Good Samaritan, but I really didn't know of anyone else who has delivered there or what level NICU unit they have, so I went with somewhere else.

Re: which hosptial did you deliver and level nicu
I went to LIJ because of their NICU and the fact that they have a children's hospital. We received EXCELLENT care in the NICU. Hunter was only there for 5 days but he had a nicer room than I did. I don't know what level NICU they have, but if I am able to get pregnant again, I will definitely deliver there.

Re: which hosptial did you deliver and level nicu
I picked a new OB that is affiliated with Winthrop because i wanted to deliver there and because of the NICU.
they are excellent! my boys were there for only 5 days but the staff was amazing.

Re: which hosptial did you deliver and level nicu
I delivered at Good Sam. Level 1 NICU. If I had made it past 38 weeks, I could have gone to Southside.

Re: which hosptial did you deliver and level nicu
Good Sam, Level 1 NICU.
I delivered via scheduled C-section at 38 1/2 weeks.
DD went straight to NICU for fluid in her lungs, DS followed shortly after for less severe case.
We were lucky, both stabilized quickly, were downgraded and my son was released the same day as me, and my daughter the next morning.

Re: which hosptial did you deliver and level nicu
I delivered at Winthrop. I was told they were a level 4 NICU. It's funny becuase before we even started thinking about kids, i was looking for an OB and said, "well, i want to go somehwere that is only affiliated with Winthrop. Because eventually when we have kids, god forbid they need to spend time in the NICU, i heard they were great!". I wound up pregnant with twins and was so glad i picked Winthrop. Then i went into labor and delivered at 32 weeks and was even happier i picked Winthrop.

Re: which hosptial did you deliver and level nicu
here is what the levels mean Levels of Neonatal Care Units The levels of care are used as a method of designating the care provided by hospitals for newborn infants. It is based according to the complexity of care provided, ranging from basic care or level one to the most complex care
Level I - Basic Neonatal Care The minimum required for any facility that provides inpatient maternity care. The hospital must have the necessary personnel and equipment to Perform neonatal resuscitation Evaluate healthy newborn infants Provide postnatal care Stabilize ill newborn infants until transfer to a facility that provides intensive care.
Level II - Specialty Care Nurseries In addition to providing all of the basic care listed above, Special Care Nurseries can Provide care to infants who are moderately ill with problems that are expected to resolve rapidly Provide care to infants who are recovering from serious illness treated in a level III (subspecialty) NICU.
Level III - Subspecialty NICU's Care for newborn infants with extreme prematurity or who are critically ill or require surgical intervention.
Level IV - Regional Subspecialty NICU's (Level IV is a designation about the Level II, only found in a limited number of the states). The Level IV NICU's are often found in regional academic medical centers and can provide the most complex level of neonatal care including Advance diagnoses Treatment of fetuses, preemies and newborns with complicated conditions.

Re: which hosptial did you deliver and level nicu
i delivered at winthrop. i had a rough pregnancy with the twins and would have definitely switched hospitals if it wasnt a level IV nicu. i delivered them at 35 weeks and they were in the NICU for 5 and 6 days.

I delivered at Good Sam in Islip. Level 3 Nicu.
I wanted Southside, my Dr said no b/c of the twins possibly comign early...they did and they were in the NICU so the decision was a good one in the end .

Re: which hosptial did you deliver and level nicu
By the way, I did both my deliveries at GOod Sam and I have nothing but good things to say about both maternal, nursery and NICU nurses and the care I receive both times. Plus I ended up there a few times during my twin-pregnancy for extra monitoring, false alarms and because I ended up sick/dehydrated. Always had good experiences.
Good luck!

Re: which hosptial did you deliver and level nicu
I am in NJ (and only had single pregnancies) but DS was born at 33 1/2 weeks and was in the NICU for 7 days.
This is from my hospital: Since 1978, the Saint Barnabas Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) has been providing specialized care for New Jersey’s smallest and sickest babies. As a level III Regional Perinatal Center, the highest level possible, the 56-bed NICU offers the latest treatments and modalities in the field to provide the most advanced care for more than 1,200 premature and ill newborns each year.
The Saint Barnabas NICU has one of the best infant survival rates among neonatal intensive care units in the nation. In fact, babies that are born at Saint Barnabas Medical Center 17 weeks early have twice the survival rate of those born at other hospital in the Vermont Oxford Network, a group comprised of more than 800 hospitals nationally and internationally.
Mothers who are at high risk for complications during pregnancy come to Saint Barnabas Medical Center for our specialized prenatal care and take comfort in the fact that, if their baby needs special care after birth, our NICU is among the best in the country and is equipped to diagnose and treat a variety of problems.
