56 days...
Until June 30th....
Yes it is sad I am counting down.
The staff at the school I work at is great...but I hate my job.
My classes are out of control. Every day I am dealing with issues that just shouldn't be there.
I have no control of the classroom.
A part of me wants to be unemployed next year...the other part likes the paycheck.

Is that all there is?!?! Being preggo and due beginning of Oct I feel like once the school yr ends I will be so close...

Just like diamondgirl said.. spring break is coming up!!
The way I see it.. 2 more weeks till we are on break.. by the time we come back, it's a short week (at least for the city schools it is.. not sure where you are, but we go back on a Wednesday)
Then it's May... and by the time it's June, the year is coming to an end, teachers are packing up their classrooms.... it usually goes by fast!

I've still been trying to come up with more ideas for you, although I know you tried a ton. Here are some new ones for you.
What about giving random prizes to one or two kids a day who are in their seats and ready to start at the bell. Maybe this will get kids motivated to catch on if you do it consistently. Something else I've done in the past is a WINK sheet which earns them extra credit. WINK stands for What I Need to Know about a certain topic. For example, I've done it with the points of concurrence in a triangle. On the day of the test, they can hand it in and each of the four boxes that is filled in completely earns them a bonus point on the test. To them four or five points on a test is huge and if it motivates them to stay on task then it's worth it.
I'll keep thinking but keep positive with your countdown! I agree that you should definitely focus on the fact that there are only NINE days till vacation!

No suggestions here - just hugs and I know how you feel.
I have three classes this year and one is completely out of control. They know there are no consequences and they know that even if they fail all year, they will go to the next grade anyway.
Their parents have no desire to be involved.
I've tried prizes and they complain, and I kid you not, that I don't give them money or iPods
It really makes me not want to do this job anymore

I've been there.
When I taught in Brooklyn, I'd start my countdown after February Break. Every morning my alarm clock would go off, and I'd shudder and think about calling in sick. Then I'd reassure myself, "Only 98 more days...", "Only 97 more days...", etc.
It's so hard to change a class's behavior in April. (not that you shouldn't keep trying!) But why not write little notes to yourself about tactics / strategies you want to try, so you'll have them on hand for September. It's so much easier to start the class off on the right foot and keep that momentum going. And it might make you feel like you have some measure of control and optimism.
