I know it's only a piddly little 5k...
But... it was MY first 5k... and I DID IT! I ran one of my fastest times, in exactly 30 minutes, which I'm really quite proud of considering the last time I ran outside was 5 months ago, when that jerk off tried to attack me!
Maybe it's the runner's high, but I started crying afterwards, especially when I saw DH and my girls cheering me on at the finish line.
It's been a long road for me, and I'm so proud of how far I've come, even if I only have a handful of people to cheer me on for my accomplishment. After my father died from complications of diabetes, and seeing how debilitating its affects were on his mobility, and ultimately, the amputation of his leg, I promised myself that I would make my health a priority, not just for myself, but mostly for DH and my girls.
So, after Yaya was born, I started eating healthier. Then, I started walking a few miles a day. Then, in October, I started training for a 5k, by running outside. And even when someone tried to attack me on my run, I didn't let it stop me, and I continued training in the gym, with the goal of ultimately running a 5k.
5 months later, I ran it, and in my own personal record time  I am just so proud of myself and I'm going to bask in the moment.
And, then, tomorrow, I start training for my next goal: 10k!! 
ETA - results just posted, so I stand corrected - I ran it inexactly 30:04 minutes  , at a pace of 9:36... 96th out of 191 people.
Not bad... but next time, I'll do better

Congratulations! That is such an accomplishment! Believe me, a 5k is something that is not easy, and a LOT of people can't run one.

Hooray!!! I think we both started running around the same time (fall 2010) and my first 5k is at the dnd of this month in Brooklyn. My trainer just gave me a 10k workout schedule-- it's 8 weeks, so you work backwards from the date of your 10k. I'll be happy to type it up and share w/ you once I'm on my laptop and not this phone!
You're a great inspiration on this board and of course to your husband and kids!

I almost cried when I finished the Philly Half...I couldn't believe I had ran it so fast I was so happy!

not piddly at all!!! a race is a race-and an accomplishment and you did it! it is the first step i imagine to a long "racing career" for you! congrats and enjoy! there is nothing like it!

great job!
I can definitely get emotional in a race. It could be reading someone's "in memory of" shirt or realizing that I am going to reach my goal. A lot of training and thought go into running!
