Ran the Lincoln Tunnel 5K

yesterday a.m. It was a great race. Interesting running through the tunnel but my time was HORRIBLE! It took so long to get past so many people to even start running. Ugh - took me 34:44 to run 5K! Bleh ..

Re: Ran the Lincoln Tunnel 5K

I've defintely had races where my time was bad because of the beginning (running through all the people). My dad always tells me start closer than whatever time I think I'll run.

What was the tunnel like? how was the air quality? i always wondered about that.

I have to tell you that this is one of my biggest pet peeves. It really is unfair to the people who you push ahead of.

That's why I really do like NYRR races, Cow Harbor and any race with a corral.

I agree with Erica! I am on the slower side (9:30 per mile) and I'll have walkers in front of me---gets me so frustrated!! What's with that??

They closed it a few hours before the race started and cleaned it then every 90 seconds they flushed it with air. I was concerned about the fumes and dirt but honestly it was perfectly fine. It didnt smell at all in there. Although - at the end of the race I still felt filthy. haha

I have to agree with you, which is why I had never followed his advice. However, if you think about it, the reason you have to push ahead of everyone is because it seems everyone starts closer than they should. So maybe its sort of like evening it out?

I love corrals too- makes things so much easier. I actually prefer to start about 30 seconds behind my time- I feel like it actually helps pace me better, so I start off slower in the beginning and speed ahead.
