Do you accept hand-me-downs?

I do!

This is one of the pros to being married to a contractor, despite all the stressors!

We recently got a fairly new stainless steel fridge for our kitchen, from a family who was re-modeling their kitchen.

A new hood for our stove from another person we know.

DH also brought home a fairly new microwave yesterday.

We can't afford to remodel our kitchen right now, so these little upgrades help a lot.

Another friend of ours is planning to give us their son's toddler bed for DS!

What hand me downs do you accept? Where do you draw the line?

(I don't think I would accept couches or a bed unless it was from someone I knew well or family because of bed bug madness).

HECK YEAH!!!!
We take everything and anything!

(although, same as you - we only take certain things from family members, close friends due to the bed bug issue)

We have 2 tables from DH's uncle, one is a coffee table and the other we use as our dining room table.

Yup. I even have friends who picked up furniture by saving it from the trash.

Re: Do you accept hand-me-downs?

Yes, FIL is a plumber and works in a lot of wealthy homes. So many of these people redo their kitchen or bathroom and then change their mind and months later redo it again. We have a few things that he got us from homes, toilet that was never used, the granite top for our laundry room sink etc..

FIL has so much of this stuff in his own home he even refirbished a hot tub someone was tossing. We are hoping he finds us one too Chat Icon

Im not HUGE on hand me downs, but I will take certain things like rugs or furniture but rarely clothes, especially for DS and only if I know the person well.

I would take absolutely anything (except underwear) as long as I could use it.

If it is in good condition and I will use it, hell yeah! I especially love the snow suit hand me downs for the kids. I hate buying those things for the 3x a year they wear them. :)

Definitely! I barely had to buy anything for my maternity wardrobe because I had a friend that passed her clothes on to me. If I can use it and it's in good condition I take it!

Re: Do you accept hand-me-downs?

Yes-we used many things that DH took out of homes he was renovating & used them in our house.
To take a 1 year old range & save it from a landfill or 3 year old high quality windows that are so much more energy efficient than ours is good on so many levels for me.

None of the items we received would have been reused, just sent to the dump.

We also have gotten tons of things for free from Craigslist & freecycle, like river rocks for a walkway, plants, a door for my greenhouse, windows for our shed.
And we've given a lot away too.

I think its a winner for everyone.
