worried mommy here- chronic ear infection
DD is 3 1/2. She has had several ear infections this year. She is actually going on a 5 week streak of on again off again fevers, and a 3 week run of ear infections with this. It is both ears, and she has had 2 courses of antibiotics in the past 3 weeks. She now has a high fever again. Took her to dr again this week, ears look bad.
Dr wants us to go to good sam for bloodwork tomorrow if she still has a fever. Plus we have an ENT appt for early next week. My mommy gut has me worried. DD has not been herself for weeks. She never really bounced back. She will seem good for a day or two, play outside have fun and then she is out for the count the next day.
I am trying not to panic....TRYING.
Has anyone had this experience with their child? I am hoping it is only an ear issue at this point. It worries me that she is not fighting infection off at this point.

Re: worried mommy here- chronic ear infection
My older son had similar problems but when he was a lot smaller. He started with at least one infection every month for 8 months straight starting at 8 months old. So he was on meds at least one time a month straight, so every 3 weeks. During that time he had the infections in one or both ears sometimes twice a month. He also had fevers on and off and they were always very high. I'm talking 103-104 constantly. We tried so many different meds and at some point they just didn't work anymore. Needless to say, he had to have tubes put in at 16-17 months old. His infections were affecting his hearing and speech. Since having the tubes put in, he never had another infection again. He also had RSV during the eight month period as well.
I would strongly suggest looking into tubes. They really help, and even though it was nerve wracking to get, they were the best thing we could have done.

Re: worried mommy here- chronic ear infection
Both my kids have had chronic ear infections and so far no tubes. Definitely go see an ENT. Have you tried Zrytec at night to help dry her up?
