basements and the poles that hold up the house
we are finishing our basement next week, I dont really want to box out the poles that are down there, is there something nice I can get to cover or wrap them with?

At the house I grew up in, my parents had carpeting wrapped around them.

Re: basements and the poles that hold up the house
we just re-finished our basement and painted them to match the walls so they kinda blend in.... I actually really like it that way. We didn't want to box them in either, then they just take up more space, i like them better round!
A friend of ours had rope wrapped around them, that looked pretty cool! Their cats used to climb them!

Dh boxed them in himself. He made like a wooden box around it and then drywalled over that. It came out great. They also sell something that covers them up.

my parents did the same thing when they did their basement years ago. it looks so much better than the boxes.

Re: basements and the poles that hold up the house
we painted ours the same color as the walls, so you really don't notice them at all
the only way i'd want to box the in is if you were to put a counter height shelf around one and use it as a bar shelf

My parents had ropes but their basement was sort of nautical so it looked cool.

Re: basements and the poles that hold up the house
I NEEDED them out, the spacing made furniture impossible.
We had an engineer come in and we had a steel beam built running up top so the poles could come down.
Best 2500 EVER spent. Now it's nice and open.

Re: basements and the poles that hold up the house
We only finished 3/4 of our basement so we just have 1 pole in the finished part...and DH boxed it. I think it finishes it off nicely. The unfinished part is just painted (with the exposed beam) and I love the look too if you're going for an industrial look.

Yep, that's what we did too. Our contractor made the boxes so small that they don't really take up any extra room.

Home depot has a wrap that makes it look like a column. Really pretty! Great invention!

That's what I would do.
Otherwise I would just paint them.

Re: basements and the poles that hold up the house
When we bought the house the previous owner tiled the pole ( with small glass tiles) It is so pretty when we renovated the basement we decorated around the pole.
