if both sets of grandparents live OOT...

how do you handle it?? we don't have any kids yet ( although, we're in the adoption process now!) this will be our first kid, AND first grandkid on both sides. so, its exciting stuff!
BUT- my parents live 2 hours away, and ILs live about 4 hours away. now, for my parents its doable to go for one night, or even just a day trip. but, when ILS come, they usually stay 3 or 4 nights.
i already go into super crazy mode before they come. cleaning, making sure the guest room andguest bathroom are set up, planning out what to feed them, making sure theres enough food in the house.... i work full time ( and plan to go back once we have a kid). so, its not easy to get everything done before they come. its alo kind of annoying because weekends are our downtime- so its annoying to have to play "good little hostess" on my days off.
ANYWAY.. so far, it hasn't been TOO bad, because they only come out every few months. but i know once they have their first grandkid here, they're going to want to come all the time. i don't know how i'm gonna handle it!!
so... is anybody here in the same situation where theres no grandparents nearby? how do you handle when they come visit for days at a time? any tips??

Hi! I lived OOS (not driving distance though; 1500 miles away) and I have to say that I LOVED when family and friends came to visit.. it was never a bother.. esp when my youngest was born.. So I can't relate to what you're feeling because it seems that you're worried that once your DC gets here, you are afraid your OOS fam will visit more or for more lengthy periods of time..

Like I said, I LOVED when my family came to visit and although I will say that I treasure my privacy as well, I wanted my family to bond with my children and for them to have a bond regardless of the distance between us..

my family is also of the type that come and visit but aren't just sitting around.. they help out and my mom would always run out and help me with errands or watch the kids while I ran out or she would cook or clean or whatever.. It's not like I had to wait on them, hand and foot, kwim?

My ILs live in FL and my folks about 4 hours away. DS is first and only Grandkid on both sides. We have to rotate holidays between the 2 which gets expensive. But my folks & friends come and go in one day frequently.
I too get stressed about cleaning and preparing and entertaining but found out quickly that they don't care, they want to see my son and visit.
Often they bring their own food so I don't have to stress. The inlaws stay in a hotel, period.
