Did the series grab you right from the first book? I'm having a tough time with the first one, but I'm wondering if it's going to be like the Sookie Stackhouse series was and got better after the first book.

I'm bummed, I was really thinking I'd love it since I'm a big historical fiction fan and that's one of the timeframes I typically enjoy.

Re: Maisie Dobbs fans

I have read all of them- with the exception of the one that just came out. The first book was ok, I guess you needed all the backstory even though I seem to recall it took away from the main plot. The second book was kind of blah- I'd skip it- but I have found that the subsequent books were better. The characters continue to change through the books, which also keeps things interesting. I seem to recall their assorted trials and tribulations more than the actual mysteries. Chat Icon
