Before your D&C... Update.. new question.. D&C related

If you had to wait a day before your D&C, were you nervous that the baby would pass on it's own?

Mine is scheduled for Friday. I'm so scared that something will happen between now and then and I will end up having a very SCARY and PAINFUL experience passing 3 babies naturally.

Tell me this is just silly to think Chat Icon I was hoping this would all be scheduled for tomorrow... no such luck..

************

Okay, so now that the D&C is tomorrow, the fear of anything happening naturally has dissipated and now I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOO scared for the procedure Chat Icon I had a D&E before.. I think that's why I'm scared. I found that so traumatic. I just can't believe I'm going through it again.

So .. someone PLEASE ease my fears and tell me it's really not THAT bad.

I'm seriously not sleeping tonight over this, I know it Chat Icon Chat Icon I hate anesthesia.. I'm so fearful of it Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Before your D&C...

YES, i was so paranoid about that!!!! I kept praying that it wouldn't happen natrually before my d&c. Normal to feel that way.
I found it to be completely nerve racking knowing i could possibly miscarriage on my own at any second. I'm not good with pain and blood, etc., so that was another factor for me.

Re: Before your D&C...

I am so so sorry for your losses. I waited awhile actually for it to pass naturally, but it wasn't on it's own (I had a blighted ovum the first time),so I had the D&C.

I think waiting a day you should be fine and not miscarry on your own.

I did also have a natural miscarriage. Before I started passing everything on my own, I was spotting and cramping a lot. Are you having that? If so, go to the hospital right away.

Miscarrying naturally was scary, but with both ways of miscarrying, the emotional pain is worse than the physical...Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Before your D&C...

i am very sorry for your loss. i actually waited a week for my D&C because mine was a missed miscarriage (never heard a hb) and i was really hopeful one would magically appear. i spotted a little but didn't bleed. i really wanted to get the D&C so i could have the genetic testing done on the tissue. i was nervous i would lose the baby before the procedure but had to, for my own peace of mind, give the heart a chance to start beating.

Re: Before your D&C...

Thank you ladies Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I'd rather things happen naturally because I absolutely HATE hospitals and I'm so scared of medical procedures- especially ones where you are put to sleep.

I just hear stories about painful experiences miscarrying naturally and I feel like at 8wks along with 3 babies, that sounds like it would be terrible Chat Icon My RE also wants to get genetic testing.. even though he doesn't think that's the cause.

I'm so over this cr@p. It's one thing after another.. One failed pregnancy after another.

I'm so burnt.

Re: Before your D&C...

I am SO SO SOrry for your loss --- my heart breaks for you....

I posted this to another poster who was having a D&C and was nervous.....

I had my 1st miscarriage on 4/10 and my D&C on 4/11. My DR strongly URGED me to do the D&C because it could be very painful and scary to miscarry on my own.

The D&C
It really is not a bad or painful procedure. I had mine done at the hospital (guess some are done in the dr office) --- they took some blood, then they started me on an IV for fluids, right before they took me in they gave me a drug (through IV) that would make me feel a little sleepy. They let my husband walk with the nurse and my hospital bed down the hallway to the operating room. Once I was there they gave me more drugs in the IV and a mask over my face....

I woke up when it was all done in the recovery room and felt fine. They asked if I had any pain and I did not. If I did they would have given me pain medicine. After staying in recover for 15-20 mins they took me back to the room. I had some ginger ale through a straw and felt fine (sad but nothing hurt). The nurse told me as soon as I could pee that we could go. So I drank my ginger ale as fast as I could, went into the bathroom and peed and got dressed. I was bleeding a little bit (wore the hospital pad the first night), the next week I wore pany liners because I would spot here and there.

Re: Before your D&C...

From someone who went through 2 natural miscarriages, it's better for your own body to get rid of it on it's own but I won't lie, it was painful.

The first loss at 6w wasn't so bad bc the baby never developed past 4w or so, but my 2nd loss was at 9w and the baby was measuring 6w and that was excruciating. I went through hours of the most severe cramps I had ever experienced and I didn't know it then, but apparently I was having contractions to get rid of it and bled very heavily for almost a week...it was more painful than labor for my son.

If your dr. suggests the D&C then it's probably best. If you're not already spotting on your own you prob won't naturally miscarry before your scheduled D&C.

My prayers are with you Chat Icon Chat Icon

I'm so sorry for your loss Chat Icon For some reason I wasn't worried about miscarrying on my own. I think it's because I was secretly hoping I'd miscarry on my own so I wouldn't have to go through the surgery.

Re: Before your D&C...

Thanks ladies.. so far so good.. pretty sure I'll make it to tomorrow.

I just can't wait to be home after. I hate hospitals. Chat Icon Chat Icon I thought I wouldn't be back in one until I was ready to give birth.

Oh well......

ETA: And so there's no confusion.. trust me I'd sooo rather this go naturally because I HATE hospitals and SOOO afraid of them Chat Icon Chat Icon I just am a teeny bit more afraid of passing 3 8wk old babies naturally. This stinks no matter what. I feel like I'm stuck in an inescapable black hole.

Re: Before your D&C...

I surprisingly wasn't afraid of this. IDK why. Maybe I didn't think of it??

I had a missed mc and didn't bleed at all for it. So I think that probably contributed to me not being nervous about this happening.

I was more concerned for the actual procedure and aftermath.

I found out on a Monday about the mc and had the D&C that Friday so there was a good amount of time in between.

I'm SOOOOOO sorry.

Re: Before your D&C... Update.. new question.. D&C related

I'm gonna be really honest, possibly graphic here. First, my heart is breaking for you. I do know what your feeling in part. I lost my first baby at 24 weeks gestation...followed by many M/c's.

I have had one D & C. I actually did pass the baby before it took place, I knew it was coming, I was 14 weeks and I felt the need to 'push' as I was going to the bathroom ( I was in the ER at Good Sam)...I felt it come out, and freaked, called the nurse in ...she didnt know what to do really. My Dr. felt the D & C was still best to perform, he could still get some cells from the baby and run tests even if I had passed most of it.

Anyway...I have a INTENSE fear of Anesthesia...I was told the D &C would take all of 15 minutes start to finish. I BEGGED my Ob not to make me have to go under ( I had eaten, they wanted to intubate and do general anesthesia..I was losing it badly.

HE agreed to do a cervical block...and just numb my cervix and let me be awake. So I can tell you how it really is , and it was NO big deal. I SWEAR....It was over in honestly less then 10 minutes if that. I spoke to him throughout it and then ...well...it was done. I went to recovery for about an hr, and left. I left sooner b/c of the no anesthesia I'm sure.

God...My heart just hurts for you and I pray you get through this as easily as humanly possible and please FM me anytime if you want to talk at all about anything.

Re: Before your D&C... Update.. new question.. D&C related

yeah i foudn out on a monday and had to wait til friday! i was a complete terrified mess and also sooo afraid of bleeding naturally.

in hindsight i am so glad i had the procedure bc it was for sure everything was out. i heard stories of natural mcs were they ended up having to do the d&c anyways.

i cried like a baby in the hospital no lie..bc of fear and sadness.

i only bled afterwards( a little gushing) that day at the hospital and then ppft..nothing at all till my next af.

i hate hospitals too. i am sooo sorry. i hope it goes as smoothly as it can

exactly how I felt, but when I didnt miscarry on my own (blighted ovum @ 10 weeks) i was scared to death of getting the d&c. I had a week of agonizing and freaking out about it thinking all the worst possible scenarios. Literally, drove myself crazy and was on edge. I had the procedure done in the hospital, i cried as they made me say goodbye to SO but they gave me something through the IV to calm me down before going into the OR and it made me really drowsy. Before i knew it I woke up in recovery. I had cramping and light bleeding for a few days after but it was not at all what i expected, i was back to myself physically in no time. Emotionally it helped me move on. Good luck, my prayers are with you Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon The actual procedure is nothing. Physically, it's not bad. You're put under (which scared me too). When I first woke up, I felt really bad cramping and pain...they gave me more pain meds and I was knocked out.

That night I was a bit cramping, and EXHAUSTED, and slept mostly when I got home. After that, I was bleeding lightly for a few days and a little bit of cramping, but physically it wasn't bad. Emotionally, is another story. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Before your D&C... Update.. new question.. D&C related

Thank you ladies Chat Icon It really wasn't nearly as bad as I imagined. Good Sam had a great staff and I found the WORST part was anticipating.. waiting around... I was told to get there at 1pm and it didn't start until close to 4ish. I sat around with my DH up until the moment I went in the OR though, and when I came out, they got him for me right away.. so at least for most of the time I was awake there, I was with him. This was so different from my D&E at Mt.Sinai. It's amazing what the difference is like from a very large hospital to a very small well organized one.

For those who happened to come across this post in a search, etc. please know the D&C itself is nothing to fear.. it's really just the anticipation, the hospital atmosphere... and the emotional aspect that hits you strongest. Chat Icon

I just came to check and see how everything went yesterday.

I forgot about the waiting. but YES there was a lot of waiting for me as well. First the waiting in the regular waiting room.. then waiting in the hosp gown in the other little cubicle type room. it was hours of waiting.

I'm still so sorry. I pray for you.
