My Dog

Is going to be the death/financial ruin of me.
He's itchy and scratchy and chewing himself till he bleeds

His ear is leaking crud, and last weekend my dh had to rush him to the vet bc his eye looked like he had a stroke.



We can't get insurance on him because he has a heart murmur gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh

did you try putting a cervical collar on him? (the one that looks like a lampshade).

Maybe a xanax rx to calm him down a little?

we gave him an allergy pill, because he has seasonal allergies, he woke me up at 3:30 am with his chewing and I started rubbing this creme the vet gave us which seems to relieve it for a little while, he also has seboreah. I took off today, partially because I was tirede from being woken up at 3:30am and because I wanted to take him to the vet before he chews his leg off.

Poor guy!! My dog had skin allergies so we put her on Cortisone to get her through the worst of it, then benadryl as needed and a topical cream for the raw spots.

We are also careful to wipe her down when she's been rolling around in the grass (the super sensitive Pampers baby wipes work for my dog).

We use Target brand Benadryl too - super cheap.

I hope he - and you! - gets some relief soon!

we do the baby wipes too and wipe her down after she comes in for a walk and benedryl since the pollen has been so bad Casey's eyes are super red.

If your dog is chewing his leg I would say E collar... it looks stupid and he will hate it but at least he wont get an infection

Have you tried switching foods? My mom's dog had major skin allergy issues that kept her up all night long, as well. She switched him to EVO (I think it's all grain free) and there has been much improvement.

not the pillow one, the clear plastic one. They get sad, but its better than it getting infected.

We also used a dog shoe, cleaned the wound, wrapped it and then put a shoe on my past dog. It worked, he would lick the shoe and his foot was able to heal. We would take the shoe off when we were home and supervised him so he wouldnt lick his foot.

You can get the Comfy Cone at Petco. Our dogs ate and slept with it on, no problem. It uses velcro and you can thread their collar through it.

Ditto on the non-alcohol baby wipes when coming inside. If you feel it's temporary because of the pollen, that would be good for now plus the cone plus the Benadryl to ease the symptoms for the poor puppy.

Otherwise, you'll need to remove all allergens and then add them back in slowly, to see what the issue is, or have the vet test.

He had his ear drained, again and now on 2 different meds for it. Dr wants to keep trying treatment before talking ablation.
Regarding his skin, we are going to try to do the baby wipes after he comes in, but I also want to invest in an air purifier and maybe a Roomba I guess that's more a gift for me, but don't tell. K? K
He's now on steriods (prednisone) and the same cream that's going in his ear is also to be rubbed on the location where he chewed his foot.
He's supposed to get a bath once a week, and we have a lotion that has a steroid and hydrocortisone in it that we need to rub in after each bath.
Whew! This is going to be a full time job

You may want to research food allergies as well. Depending on the breed a change in diet can help skin allergies.

Our dog as allergies as well... he gets a daily antihistamine and a second one when it's really bad. We also changed his food to something specifically for his breed and that seemed to help too. We've also given him benadryl on the nights when the itching is really bad. But since we switched his food the scratching has gotten MUCH better!!!
