new to LI families need advice
My DD Has a milk allergy due to limited milk products I had in my diet. (milk and cereal with yogurt pieces). My dr. tested her stool because it looked like it had mucus in it and there was signs of blood in it which resulted in a milk allergy. I am transitioning her from breast milk in bottles to prescription formula in bottles. Has anyone had to do this and can give advice or experiences with this and the stool still having mucus in it? She is 4 weeks old and not til she was 3 and 1/2 weeks old did she show signs of mucus in her dirty diapers.

I was going to say basically all of this stuff too! Except my son was diagnosed at 6 weeks. But I continued to successfully nurse him without issue until 15 months, just eliminated all dairy from my diet. And it took him about 2 weeks as well. I was told dairy can take up to 3-4 weeks so completely leave your system. Hope that helps! You can definitely find a lot of support on here, as there are a number of us who have dealt with/are dealing with milk allergy babies!

Re: new to LI families need advice
My son had a milk allergy as a baby that eventually went away by age 2.5/3... (he's 11 now, I can't really remember)
I nursed him for a little over a year, and then switched him to Prosobee or soy milk...
The ped told me NOT TO test it... Just keep away from milk products, cheese etc... and it would eventually go away, which it did. Talk to Porrruss... (my sister) her children are allergic to milk... One of them outgrew it and she's about to be 4.

Re: new to LI families need advice
My son had severe eczema which was caused by food allergies. He had no gi symptoms. I tried every elimination imaginable. He sees an allergist and is basically allergic to everything. It's just the way he is. You could always do a formula trial while pumping, I did ths successfully with a hypoallergenic formula prescribed while I pumped as much as possible ( 6x day both boobs ds was 5 months old though). I had no loss in milk production but ds was older. Good luck I know how frustrating this is.

Re: new to LI families need advice
The only reason to stop nursing is if their is a lactose allergy. There is more lactose in breast milk than cow's milk. If it is a protein allergy you can keep nursing! We found out my dd had a protein allergy when she was about 6 weeks old. I eliminated dairy from my diet, and in a few weeks she was better. I am still nursing her at 13 months. I just introduced dairy into my diet again two weeks ago. So far so good. A little constipation, but she is learning to digest it, and doing great. Good luck. Feel free to fm w/ any questions.

Re: new to LI families need advice
Thank you all so much for all the advice, unfortunately I stopped the nursing b/c i got mestitis 2 times and this time my Dr put me on an antibiotic that the baby can not nurse with. So I am transitioning to the formula using up my supply I had prior to the mestitis. The support on here is great and I am so happy for all the advice that I have received so far.

Re: new to LI families need advice
My DD was diagnosed with a milk allergy early on, I forget the exact age. We transitioned to prescription Nutramigen and it worked like a charm. We were told to switch from regular formula to the Nutramigen cold turkey.
