Re: Saftey-swim mommy & me
I just looked into this and the cost was $85 + $15 Insurance Fee for 6 weeks (1/2 hour session).
I don't think 6 months is too young, the lady on the phone told me some start at 2 months.
DS is 7 1/2 months and I think I am going to sign up.

I did it with Amanda. It was cute but I found it to be a total PIA to have to change out of a wet bathing suit and change the baby too for a half hour in the water.
Kenzie isn't too young but I probably wouldn't do it in the summer, I would just take my DC in an outdoor pool by myslef if you access to one.

Re: Saftey-swim mommy & me
I just started at the one in commack and it was fun! my guy is 5 1/2 months. The first class we worked on kicking and floating..lol...I really think it's a great way to get him used to the water which is what I want. I think it's best to start them young! That way they will grow up knowing about the water...

Re: Saftey-swim mommy & me
we did this with my son starting at 4 months. We signed up during their dec promotion so I'm not sure of the reg price. The instructors were maybe 16 yrs old and the pool was totally over crowded (we were there on the weekend so maybe it's less crowded during the week). For what we paid I was happy with him just being in a heated pool and getting introduced to water.

Re: Saftey-swim mommy & me
ds was older than your dc- he started classes at 14 months & it was a nightmare. DS hated it b/c the pool area was chaotic & completly overcrowded. Everyone was bumping into eachother in the pool. Yes, the instructors were about 16/17/18 years old & even though they work there I felt like they had no clue on how to make my baby feel comfortable.

Re: Saftey-swim mommy & me
I used to work at Saf-T-Swim (as I have mentioned many times ) and we used to tell parents the earlier the better. They used to start them as young as 2 months for private lessons. They advertise "2 months thru adult." They also used to offer free session for individual lessons for children 6 months and under.
I would always tell parents that the right time to start them is when you feel comfortable.
Hope this helps and good luck!!

ITA! My DS loved it though but it was such a hassle to me, I started to bring someone to help afterwards. He was 14m when we started but there were babies there at 5-6 months old.

Re: Saftey-swim mommy & me
We did the Mommy and Me w/DS last year starting at around 7 months. We took last summer off and in September, signed him up for private lessons through the winter. When you do the private lessons, you also get a half hour in the water with DC afterwards (or before) and we try to do it every time to reinforce his lesson. DS is 22 months and can climb out of the pool, get into the pool, hold his breath for almost 30 seconds and is literally on the verge of swimming alone- so although it was expensive and annoying with a wet baby and wet Mommy, to me it's totally worth it.

Re: Saftey-swim mommy & me
I am thinking of swim lessons too, actually spoke to Saf-t-Swim today. Anyone try the Swim & Scuba in RVC? They are more $ but at least sound more professional. My DS is 6 months and loved the pool when visiting grandparents. Even went under and tried to float and kick. Seems starting early would be highly beneficial.
