starting cereal...how do you fit it all in??

We will be starting cereal soon...how do you fit it all in? especially moms who breastfeed. I feel like I will be feeding babies all day long.

Right now they are eating at 7:30, 10:30, 1:30, 4:30 and 7:30. It takes me about an hour to nurse/bottle feed and pump. Did you stretch more time between feedings? or is this just the way it is?

thanks Chat Icon Chat Icon I always get a little anxious before we do something new and it always seems to work out but I figured I would ask. Chat Icon

Don't have experience just yet as far as twins are concerned.

But when I started cereal with DS (who was also EBF) I just did it in the evening. So he'd nurse around 5 then at 6 I'd do cereal and nurse again around 8.

We did cereal once a day for a while. Until we were ready to add in a fruit/veggie.

We started cereal and babyfood at 5 months, but then Kylie got RSV really bad and was hospitalized, so we stopped the food. Started up again at 6 months. By that time, they learned how to hold their own bottles. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon My first DC never held his bottle, so this has been amazing for me. Sorry that doesn't help you if your nursing. Chat Icon

Re: starting cereal...how do you fit it all in??

I am not nursing, so I don't know if this will be much help...
But, we started solids around 5mo. I had a hard time figuring it out, also. In fact, I think I asked about it here too!
Anyway, my babies started eating less times/day,at that point... They eat every 4 hours-ish now (7:30, 12, 4, 7). I started with a "lunch" feeding with the noon feeding. I would put them both in their high chairs and feed DS two bites, then DD a few bites, back and forth until they finIshed, then gave them their bottles. There was a lot of crying and learning to wait!
I then added the morning solids (just before their 7:30 bottle), then the "dinner" solids... I do them between their 4 and 7pm bottles (at 5:30). Now, I can feed DS first (he's fast), then he'll hold his bottle while I feed DD.

Good luck! It will all work itself out.

Re: starting cereal...how do you fit it all in??

Im not breastfeeding but I usually do cereal about an hour or so after their first bottle in the morning. I give them time to digest a little and then they get the cereal. Then in the evening usually around 5/6 they will have either a fruit or veggie. Im sure it's a lot harder for you since BF takes up more time. Chat Icon

Thanks everyone! I know it will work out. I am going to see if I can do 4 hours between their first 2 feedings and fit cereal in there. I also think I am going to wait a little longer Chat Icon Chat Icon
