Sugargliders

I'm thinking of getting one.. Any body else have one? Any advice

Hey there! Yes, my sister just got one a few months ago and so far it's been great. Sugargliders are a lot of work though, so just make sure you're prepared for it. First and foremost, they are extremely social and usually one person pets as they develop a strong bond to their owner. But, you do have to work to get that bond- sugargliders need to be handled a lot. Another thing that helps them bond with you- a bonding pouch. Sugargliders are actually marsupials so they are pouch mammals... bonding pouches actually look like little purses or fanny packs made for carrying around your sugarglider.

Another thing to consider... sugargliders need a lot of space. The cage my sister has for her sugarglider is actually even too small since he's gotten much bigger since she got him. He doesn't really have enough space to actually glide, but my sister takes him out in the bathroom and lets him glide around for exercise. It's really cute. They are also nocturnal. The cage is in my sister's room and he doesn't really bother her at night, but they are definitely active at night. As soon as it's dark out and the lights go out, they come out of their pouch. They do make some noises (called crabbing and barking) but not very often. My sister said she's heard hers "bark" in the middle of the night maybe twice. It's louder than you think though. lol! The last thing, they need a varied diet. This, I consider a good thing though. While there are sugarglider pellets I'm sure you could feed them, it's not really healthy for them. Instead they like to eat assorted fruits and veggies, meat (chicken, turkey), and insects. My sister's sugarglider's favorites are honey bbq chicken and blueberries. lol!

Sooo, after that novel, they are a lot of work but worth it in the end. My sister loves her sugarglider and it's really obvious how much that sugarglider has bonded with her! And just b/c I think he's cute, here's a picture of the little guy!
