C-Section Question
I know I'm only at 26 weeks but my dr had said I will most likely need a section.
Question - did you have a Spinal or Epidural? How bad was it? did you get sick afterwards?
How long is it until you can hold the baby(ies)? I know it sounds kinda mean but I don't really want to hold the babies way after everyone else has had a chance to.
How long are you usually in recovery? Can you see the babies in recovery?
Panic attacks are setting in.. lol!

Re: C-Section Question
With my twins I had both a spinal and an epidural. I did not get sick. They gave me the babies to hold right before they wheeled me to recovery, so only DH had held them before me.
With my second DD, I had only a spinal, with a morphine bolus, and I did get sick later from the morphine. (not during the surgery). This was at a different hospital, and I didn't hold her until I was already in recovery- but again only DH had held her before me.
Both times I was in recovery about an hour.

Re: C-Section Question
I had a spinal for my c-section. It was actyally a lot easier than I though..I barely felt a thing. It didnt make me sick at all.
As fas as holding the babies I delivered 2 months early so my situation is different than normal. My DH actually got to hold them for like 2 seconds and then I gave them both kisses and they were wisked away to the NICU. I was able to hold them both a few days later.
I think I was in recovery for about an hour. After that I was taken to my room and went to sleep...it was like 2am at that point.
HTH!

Re: C-Section Question
Both C-Sections I had a spinal.
The spinal had a morphine boost in it, I think its supposed to last 12 hours after the injection.
My first c-section, DS was born at 3:25 in the morning. I saw DS at 7 when I got a room. Visiting hours didn't start until 10 if I remember correctly.
This time the girls were born 10:35 and 10:36pm. I got to hold them after I was released from recovery (9am ish). I was told I had to stay in recovery longer because I had twins and I had an increased chance of hemorrhage.
Anyway, I didn't have any visitors for a while that day due to getting care for DS.

I had a spinal and in my experience it wasnt bad at all. They gave me a shot before to numb me and it worked instantly. It was such a relief to have the pain go away (I was having contraction every 2 minutes).
How long is it until you can hold the baby(ies)? I know it sounds kinda mean but I don't really want to hold the babies way after everyone else has had a chance to.
When Baby A was born they her her up for me to see then cleaned her, measured her, swaddled her and gave her to my DH who was sitting next to me so I could see her. While he held baby A the Dr. delivered baby B. They held him up cleaned him, measured him, swaddled him and then gave him to my DH. They let my DH hold onto both babies for about 10 minutes then they took them to do their exams or whatever they had to do. Once the Dr. was finished with my stitches and bandaged me up they put both babies on my bed and wheeled all three of into recovery together. Once we got to the recovery room I was able to breastfeed them (seperately) and they let them stay with us for about an hour. Then they took to babies to the nursery to finish what they had to do. It was perfect. By that time I was getting a little tired and was able to relax since I had been able to hold and feed both of them without being rushed. It was perfect.
How long are you usually in recovery? Can you see the babies in recovery?
Like I said before the babies were with me and my DH in recovery for about an hour maybe a little longer. They never rushed us to give them to them so they could bring them to the nursery. I wound up being in recovery for 3-4 hours and that was only because my blood pressure was very very high. I felt fine but every time they'd check it it just kept going up. Eventually they realized if I laid on my side it would go down so after an hour of laying on my side and 3 good bp readings I was allowed to go to my room. When I got to my room my DH went down the hall to get the twins and was able to bring them to my room so I could feed them again since it had been about 3 hours since they last ate.

Re: C-Section Question
I had a spinal. I did start to feel nauseous, but the anesthesiologist added a anti-nausea drug and I felt better right away. Dh held the babies and went with them to recovery while they finished up with me. They stayed with us in recovery the whole time. I could have held them then, but was having some bleeding issues, so the nurses were busy working on me. I was in recovery a little bit longer due to these bleeding issues, but was in a room within 2 hours.

Re: C-Section Question
I had a spinal. I got very nauseous, and its an extra strange feeling when you are numb and all of sudden are vomiting. But as soon as it happened they gave me anti-nausea meds and it helped.
My babies went to the NICU, but I know I would have felt the same way as you had they not.
We didn't get to hold them in the OR, but they brought them over so I could see them. I had to stay in recovery for 8hrs b/c of some issues so DH went to check on them and before they took me to my room they wheeled me into the NICU to see them both.
I think there is a nice way to tell your MIL (or have DH tell your MIL) that you and him want to be the first people to hold the babies. I know my MIL would understand....I hope your does too. You are in no way being rude!

Re: C-Section Question
i had the spinal and got extrememly sick....but don't go by me. i was throwing up my entire pregnancy!!! i threw up on the operating table but then they gave me some anti nausea meds and i was fine!!! i was in recovery for a really long time. i got to see the babies right after i had them and DH held them next to me while they stitched me up. then they took them to the nursery. i had them at 4:25 and 4:26. DH stayed with me for a litte but i really didn't need him so i told him to go up by the babies. he stayed up there for a few hours and then i got a room about 1 am. i asked them if i could see the babies, because i hadn't seen them in almost 12 hours! they brought them to me and i could have them as long as i wanted. the next morning they brought them in when i asked and it was great!!!! i remember the panic attacks at this point of the pregnancy too and you will be fine hon!!!!!

Re: C-Section Question
I had a repeat c section with my twins. Right after the spinal I said I couldn't breathe and I was going to throw up. I have no idea if they gave me anti nausea meds, but the nausea did go away. But apparently my blood pressure went too low and the anathesiologist said "get them out now and get them out fast." I was kind of out of it but before I knew it I was feeling much better and one was out. One minute later the other twin was out and dh got to hold them and bring them over to me. They didn't go to the NICU but I couldn't see them for a few hours because Emilia's body temp wouldn't regulate and she had to be under the heat lamps. I went into a room maybe 2 hours after surgery and they brought them in an hour later. I remember my MIL was in the room and she kept going on and on about how swolen I was because of the IV. When they brought the babies in, I remember holding Colette, wishing MIL would stop talking, and then I felt sick. DH managed to get me a bowl right before I vomited.
I completely forgot about that until this post.
