Watched Extreme Couponing for the first time....where the hell do they find all these coupons?

Watched this show for the first time and I was fascinated

Where do they find all these coupons? I have maybe 1 or 2 coupons when I go food shopping. I never find coupons for the products I use.

And how are they using so many? Are they doubling and tripling coupons for the same item?

I am going to have to watch this show more to figure out how they do it

They get 20 papers every sunday.

They purchase coupons from coupon clipping companies.

They ask their neighbors for coupons.

They dumpster dive.

I always thought there were limits to how many coupons you could use.

I definitely wont be buying 20 newspapers or dumpster diving

I laughed when the woman was annoyed her grocery bill was $29 bucks or something like that. I would kiss the floor if my bill was ever that low

We use Similac RTF and I didn't pay more than $.50 per bottle in the last three months, thanks to coupons and some swapping websites...
Couponing is great if you have time...

I watched the show twice and those ladies kind of freaked me out.

Especially the one with all the makeup.

DH and I are on a fixed income, but my solution is just to avoid the store completely......not spend hours clipping coupons to get crap for free I don't need.

Seems like hoarding behavior to me!

They did say one woman spends $2000/year on newspapers. She may have been the one who was disappointed. I think if I spent $2K on newspapers, I might be disappointed too.

I saw another dumpster dive.

Someone else stalks foreclosures and steals papers (which is so wrong - someone is paying for that paper!)

NYC/LI/metro area isn't the best for couponing...when we were in SO Cal, they would triple up to and including $1 and if it was $1+ they still tripled the $1 )in addition to the extra $.50 or whatever the coupon amount was)

Scotty B from Z100 was in Newsday this morning (Part 2) discussing his couponing....i didn't think it could be done on LI....my store only doubles with their extra "doubler" coupons....i am going to start looking into this

I just checked out the websites I posted....so overwhelming! The coupon clippers website is where you can purchase coupons!

My husband is into this.

You have to seek them out online and not just clip what's in the Sunday paper.

The previous poster listed great websites.

The problem locally is that our stores seem to be stricter with limits and doubling coupons. Only KK lets you double up to and including a dollar on a regular basis; all others limit you to under a dollar. Pathmark and Waldbaum's will do it on occasion, but only as a special for a few days. Also, our local stores put limits on the number of items you can get, coupons you can use, etc. So I think it's harder to get the same level of success here.

I get annoyed only because DH will get a ton of stuff free that we would never use in a million years - like a bunch of containers of sardines. I hate clutter and we have no basement where it could at least be buried out of sight, and I will never let him shove paper towels under my son's bed like they do in the show. As a result, DH's office is FULL of stuff - there's this one little path to his computer and that's it. As long as it's out of my face.

I just think a lot of it is impractical. It all seems like dry goods too. I only saw one person buy meat at a discounted price and that was for $1 a pork chop. On a good day, I can get a sale like that too without a coupon. There are no coupons on meat. Either they are eating very unhealthy boxed foods, or you aren't seeing their ENTIRE grocery order to get through a week

Love the show, it definitely inspired me to be more conscientcious (however you spell it) of store sales and cvoupons. However the only downside for some city people like myself is that most stores dont allow duplicate coupons. Whereas the stores these ladies on the show go allow double and triple coupons on one purchase. So i think its a tad decieving.
