Re: If your child is ADHD....

I've heard two things.

gluten free - DS would have NO part of it - but he is very picky to begin with

no artificial colors (especial red) - Since he is so picky, I don't think he really eats many, but I'm going to try to experiment this summer.

Re: If your child is ADHD....

My dd isn't classified as adhd but she does take a few different supplements that have helped her focus and stay grounded.

First off, she used to mouth things, and does so now every so often. She will seek out a lot of oral motor work (electric toothbrush for long time, chew on straws long after she is done drinking etc). When she does this, her "yeast" levels in her body are usually elevated. When her yeast/candida is elevated her behavior is a bit more irritable. She takes two different probiotics right now but her nutritionist has to change them up over time, or they stop doing what they are supposed to do. The probiotics works wonders. However, the key is being on the correct one.

My dd also takes an enzyme and hcl with her meals (enzyme in the beginning, hcl in the end). This helps her body digest and absorb the vitamins and minerals better.

We have her on a semi gluten free diet. We try wherever possible to go gluten free. The gluten free waffles you buy frozen can taste like sand, but if you get maple grove's gluten free waffle pancake mix, it's actually really good. We have to make it fresh, even that a day later tastes a bit gritty.

I also try to stay away from dairy as much as possible. (except for cheese since she loves it).

My dd is also on a multi vitamin (kidsplay), and vitamin D (she was deficient), she takes lemon/lime favorite fish oil (efalex brand for kids), and supplement called "calm" which is magnessium. This keeps her 'regular'...and helps the toxins leave her body.

Always make sure your kids are going regularly. A lot of time "hyper" unfocused behaviors correlate with irregularity.

Oh and red dye...is in so many products from bbq sauces, all types of drinks candies, frostings, yogurts, cereals , even medications etc.

Thanks Elizabeth for all of that information! Definitely need to start experimenting.

I believe the Feingold Diet is the one that talks about ADHD and artifical colors
